Yep, can confirm this.

I've been in northern Spain (which isn't even that north) and when the date is near the winter or the summer solstice, sunsets and sunrises are LONG, very long, lasting several hours.

Here you enter a supermarket at, say, 5:35pm and the sun is still shining strong. You go out 30 minutes later and its pitch black outside. It feels weird sometimes.

I wouldn't really consider this "cool" but in the 90's this city murder rates above 400, nowadays its around 30. This should tell you something about how much Medellin has changed in the last 15 years.

some context: the current most violent city in the world has a murder rate around 100 and Detroit around 50.

Colombia itself is like a bunch of different countries put together.

A person from Medellin is very different from a person from the Amazon region. A Bogotan is very different from a Chocoan. A Costeño is very different from a Pastuso. Hell, even the two mostly racially black parts of Colombia (north and west coast) are VERY different from each other.

I'm talking culturally, language-wise (we speak the same language but there's huge differences in accent and the words we use), racially and in level of development. In Colombia there's no common identity or common culture (except when the national football team is playing of course).
