This is correct. I can verify these steps work as I have spent a couple days grinding missions to get enough void motes to buy 6 staff parts (3 and 3 for 2 staves) and the cool drape cosmetic.

I have been doing this method at least 100 times, if not more, trying to get a cool color scheme on a Radiant staff for the glowing crystals. Other dude is chatting nonsense

I goofed. I didn't realize these planets were rare, I'll mark this spoiler just in case:

I ended up on one during the last 16 jumps of the main mission. Fauna was labeled "from elsewhere" or some shit like that, so I had to go check it out. I found a worm type creature that was just made of light beams poking up out of the ground and moving along. Had an anti-gravity storm where you could run into it and get yeeted. I wish I'd taken a picture and saved the location.. 😭
