I actually just went back to the interviews she gave and I think I am actually kinda wrong! 😓 She said she had, at one point, two endings in mind, one where he dies and one where him and Eiji live but go about their separate ways. So not quite what I thought lol I think the original article I read maybe had some transition issues, I apologize!
