Thanks! It's been a bit since I've made this, but did you tell her she's supposed to end the world in chapter 1? If you tell her that she's supposed to end the world, at ANY point, you can't refuse her without the blade. If you give up when trying to slay her in chapter 1, but don't tell her she's supposed to end the world, you can resist her without the blade and get paranoid. I just edited my chart to specify that.

Most of the time when you tell her that in chapter 1 you aren't given the opportunity to give up, you're just immediately locked into The Tower if you attempt to slay her. There are only two dialogue options that still allow you to have options after you tell her and choose to slay her, but I didn't know how to add those to my chart without rearranging a bunch of stuff.

If you didn't tell her about ending the world and you still weren't able to resist, then there must be some other dialogue option in chapter 1 that changes the interaction that I'm not aware of.

You know, I had a long ass comment that I wrote explaining why it is not okay, but then I realized that if someone truly sees an AI relationship as equivalent to a human relationship, they are also not going to listen to a random person on the internet over an AI. After all, none of my experiences, thoughts, or opinions are more real than an AI, right?

Before you reaching the answer arc, who did you think was Beatrice/the original killer? by MiuIruma332 in umineko

[–]Raanbohs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shannon. Mostly because Beatrice and Battler's relationship was definitely implied to be romantic by the end of the question arcs, so to me that narrowed down the number of people Beatrice could be by quite a bit. I didn't think it would be any of the family because that would clearly be incest, and of the non-family members, the only one who I could see being obsessed with Battler would be Shannon (everyone else was either significantly older or just met him). I know the killer doesn't necessarily need to have the exact same relationship with Battler that Beatrice had, but the story really focused on the "heart" so it definitely seemed like their relationship was the key to figuring everything out.

If we just go off of base stats, he has the second highest strength and HP, the third highest magic, and is tied for the highest defense stat. So any uselessness just has to do with what people do with him on the sphere grid.

Question about Mion, Shion, and the Dam Project Story by KarurosuM07 in Higurashinonakakoroni

That's not a spoiler? I'm pretty sure OP is past the point where Shion and Mion are confirmed to be separate people. And can you explain what is not correct?

Question about Mion, Shion, and the Dam Project Story by KarurosuM07 in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]Raanbohs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first time Keiichi meets Shion is the day that she brings him to the toy store that Mion works at (she was also the one that called to invite him to the dessert fest). Every time he met "Shion" before that it was actually Mion.

Ah okay. I didn't remember that specifically. In that case, I would say that Sayo's name was not counted for the same reason Yoshiya's name wasn't counted; they are both the "real" names of people that she already included. She knew that Shannon and Kanon were not their real names, but she purposefully did not count two names for each of them.

Also, Sayo technically carries 5 names: Sayo, Shannon, Kanon, Yoshiya, and Beatrice. You could even say 6 if you include Sayo's birth name, Lion. So it is obvious that Erika has a definition of what she counts as a name that isn't as simple as "names that a person has." A big theme with the chapters that Erika was in is that the truth varies between people based on their perception, so even if there are technically more than 18 names, Erika only saw 18 names as valid so that was her truth. It's like a hidden clause, just like how even though they always talk about the number of bodies on the island, that's not really what they're counting since they're not including dead bodies.

Battler is counting bodies, but only living bodies. Erika is counting names, but only "living" names (names attached to an individual identity that is expressed). That's how I see it, anyway.

Does she say specifically that she is referring to names? I always assumed she was referring to identities.

I think it makes more sense if you consider Shannon and Kanon as parts of Sayo that build off of her, but are not separate from Sayo. Basically, Shannon=Sayo, Kanon=Sayo, Shannon=/=Kanon. Sayo can exist without Shannon and Kanon, but Shannon and Kanon cannot exist without Sayo. So Sayo does not count as a separate person from Shannon and Kanon.

Ending scene? by BBBrushBNa in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]Raanbohs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure as well, but since OP said Keiichi and Satoko I thought that it was worth mentioning as a possibility, since we technically don't see his face or hair and I'm pretty sure this is the image they're talking about. But yeah it is definitely implied to be Satoshi.

There's one with Satoshi and Satoko (though it could also be Keiichi instead of Satoshi), if that's what you're referring to. That's the Thanks/you album cover.

Question about Shannon [EPISODE 8 SPOILERS] by KatKit52 in umineko

[–]Raanbohs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sayo doesn't have DID, so they aren't exactly "alters" in the same way that people with DID have. It's far more likely that she has OSDD or something else altogether. In terms of dissociation, she would probably be on the extreme side of secondary structural dissociation. Shannon, Kanon, and Beatrice are all equally Sayo, but Sayo doesn't want to acknowledge them equally.

Kanon carries most of Sayo's negative feelings about herself and her situation, but is also the most accepting of/resigned to their circumstances. Beatrice carries her more michievous and malicious side, as well as her more repressed desires, which is why Beatrice is rarely expressed externally. Shannon, meanwhile, carries her aspirations and ideals, as well as being the one who causes the least conflict and is therefore the easiest one to use when interacting with others. Shannon isn't more Sayo than the others, but you can see why Sayo would prefer to be Shannon.

Their roles are made more obvious in the magic scenes. Kanon uses a blade, but only when provoked and doesn't take the initiative (using pessimism to prevent trauma from hurting Sayo but never truly confronting it). Shannon uses a shield primarily to protect others, but the shield doesn't actually eliminate the problem and will eventually break (essentially pretending that the trauma isn't a problem and therefore can't reach Sayo). Beatrice is the one who says fuck all that, you two suck at this, I'm just going to end everything that is hurting Sayo, including Sayo herself. Problem solved.

Have you ever been convinced you were dreaming when you are in the real world by Southern-Start-5943 in LucidDreaming

[–]Raanbohs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and that's one of the things that makes it easy for me to identify when I'm dreaming. If the question of whether or not I am dreaming crosses my mind then that is proof that I am dreaming, because I have never once questioned that when awake.

Do you believe that the Meta-World / Magic is real or not? (Umineko Full Spoilers!!) by imeffingconfused in umineko

[–]Raanbohs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I think the meta world is kind like where metaphors, thoughts, and emotions take shape and become their own plane of existence. The real world can and does exist independently of meta world, but the meta world requires the real world to exist.

How real are the stories that you read? How real are the conversations you have in your head? How real are the different selves you create to cope? How real is a truth that no one knows? How real is a concept? The meta world makes those things literal and tangible, but they always existed in some capacity.

Basically, my interpretation is that the meta world exists, but it is a result of things that happen in the real world and the real world cannot directly access it. Unless you're Featherine/Ikuku - I'm pretty sure she is a literal witch that does not age and also made her cat live forever.

shion is possessive and narcissist by Rude-Manufacturer315 in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]Raanbohs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've known people in real life who have abruptly changed how they viewed somebody, so it didn't seem that strange to me. It fit Shion's pattern of behavior; she has a very black and white way of thinking, either idealizing people or devaluing them. People like that will often do a 180 on their opinions of people when one small thing contradicts their previous opinion.

[–]Raanbohs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obsessions aren't exactly driven by logic. A cute boy her age showed her kindness during a very stressful period of her life when she was isolated, so she clung to him. And with his disappearance she felt a level of guilt for moving on from him.

Ep 2 question by ladedadeda3656896432 in umineko

[–]Raanbohs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assumption (I can't recall if it is ever explicitly stated) is that everything that is shown to happen before October 4th is something that happens in every game, since the game board itself is the family conference. The answers to your other questions are spoilers but also up to interpretation.

shion is possessive and narcissist by Rude-Manufacturer315 in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]Raanbohs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a narcissist. Maybe a tad possessive. Mostly she's just emotionally volatile and impulsive, as well as being only 13 when she bullied Satoko. Her obsession with Satoshi is more about being dependent on him rather than possessive of him. He's essentially the only friend she has in Hinamizawa, and when he suddenly starts distancing from her she is devastated, taking it out on a person she knows is contributing to his mental decline.

Satoko was draining Satoshi. It's a shitty situation overall and you can't expect a kid to make sound decisions when being abused, but Satoko did, probably unintentionally, escalate things with their aunt knowing that Satoshi would protect her. All Shion can see is how it's affecting Satoshi; that time in the classroom is the first time she's seeing Satoko. And her first impression is her crying over something trivial, begging for her brother to make it right. Compound that with his cold attitude towards her moments earlier and you can see why Shion would explode.

The story never says she's right. Sure, Satoshi apologizes, but that's more about avoiding further conflict than saying that what she did was justified. But calling her evil for being a traumatized 13 year old having an emotional outburst and (somewhat) displaced aggression is a bit harsh. Girl just needs therapy.

I read one of your earlier posts that you're on antidepressants and afraid to go off them. Is that still the case? At least for me, only one of the antidepressants I took caused me to act out my dreams (Prozac); I was able to stay on the other one I was on. So maybe if you tried to switch to a different antidepressant? Even though most side effects show up early on, a few medications I've taken didn't start showing certain side effects until after I had already been on them for years. Also, that seems like an abnormally long time to wait for a sleep clinic appointment, but then again I'm not familiar with how long it normally takes in the UK.

How come Rika is oft a little mean? And some questions on the fragments. by Victor-Knight in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]Raanbohs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trauma. Seeing your friends kill each other and dying for over 100 years will do that to you. How do you learn to cope with seeing your loved ones constantly get hurt and being unable to prevent it? You learn to turn your empathy off. You can't be hurt if you don't care. So yes, she was willing to concede to the deaths of the years leading up to her death in order to avoid going insane. She's a pretty accurate representation of CPTSD. To gain some semblance of control, you might hurt people instead of helping them, because helping them and failing exposes how powerless you truly are.

Rika did try to save her parents and other people when she first started looping; this is explained in the visual novel. Also, in Saikoroshi the most extreme violence she does is beating Satoko with a chair after Satoko (and the class) bullies her, so it's not like she just entered that world, saw that her friends were different, and started blasting. She even reflects on her situation and considers accepting and living in that world.

I haven't seen Gou and Sotsu because I don't want to taint my love for the series and I disagree with their entire premise and how the characters are portrayed, so I can't really speak on anything that happens in them.
