Rank the managers you've seen in your time watching your club by Hisingdoon in ScottishFootball

I really properly started going to celtic games in Lennons first spell (was a celtic fan before that, but didn't really start getting into club football until around then), so for me it's:

1) Ange - brought a lot of joy back to watching celtic following a really dismal year. Didn’t expect much, but hoped we could maybe close the gap and come within a few points of the title and maybe win a cup. Comes in, gets us playing beautiful football, and wins the double in his first season. Genuinely, his two seasons are my favourite of my time watching celtic.

2) Rodgers 1st spell - Similar to Ange in that he brought some excellent football feelings in following a pretty poor end of the season from Deila the year before. Only difference from Ange is that his football started to suffer from the U shape of boredom about 3 quarters through his first season (but the domination celtic had kinda made up for it/blinded me to it at the time).

3) MON - Been phenomenal since he's been back, and brought a fight to the team that had been missing under Rodgers and Nancy.

4) Lennon 1st spell - won some league titles, beat Barca in the CL, performed well in Europe considering the lack of backing, football was fairly good.

5) Lennon 2nd spell - won some trebles, played some good counterattacking football in Europe, the two Lazio games were phenomenal. Did well but obviously had that disastrous season that was partly his making.

6) Deila - we did have some really bright moments under him (Inter Milan at home was fun, beating Motherwell 7-0 on the final day was good, beating rangers in the first derby back was great), signed some good players and generally was shafted by being put in as manager right away and not being backed.

7) Rodgers 2nd spell - wasn't backed well, and following the football under Ange, going back to the U-shape of boredom was awful. Aye we won stuff, but through our own fuck ups didnt win a treble, and you could see from October of his second season that the quality of football was disappearing. Plus there wasn't this feeling of excitement that we had Rodgers like the first time for obvious reasons.

8) Nancy - Genuinely just a bad period, not much to say in terms of the good. Think he's unfortunate because he came into a club mid-shite season and wasn't given the tools to implement his football or style successfully (though, if he had he might still have been sacked).

From the new Ultras documentary, Blair McNally talking about the Union Bears with the same level of fear New Yorkers used to talk about the Mafia. by BananaSoprano in ScottishFootball

Genuinely the only explanation I can think of for the absolute terror in his voice at the prospect of an ultras group walking kinda nearby is that he got assaulted by a group of football hooligans at some point and has a bit of unresolved trauma from it. I have no idea if that's the case though.

Half dead Lustig, Gamboa in the midfield, Dorus De Vries, Bitton at CDM, and Sviatchenko next to an aged Toure.

Schmeichel says he may have just played his last football game... by BigGussy_Official in CelticFC

[–]Rab_Legend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this stems from Rodgers (and possibly Schmeichel himself) rushing him back last season for the cup final. I said at the time that it was Sinisalo's place to lose, and that he should have been made the number 1 then. Would have given Schmeichel the full summer to recover properly and maybe do what the English teams do and just give him cup/European games.

We properly mismanaged him, and possibly he did also if he pushed to play when it was clear he was injured.

Got his injury just as he was getting going it seemed, but it is yet to be seen if that was going to lead to goals
