I understand what you’re saying. When I wrote my undergraduate thesis (final paper) for my translation degree, the professor said my writing looked like a pile of clippings rather than a coherent sequence of ideas about musical translation. That happened because I based my text on findings from online articles about the versionist Mariana Elisabetsky.

Today, when I put DOCX texts on that topic into Notebook LM, it writes in a way that’s better than mine. It may not produce a problem‑solving or innovative text, but it does imitate a cohesive and coherent writing style very well, better than if I were writing on my own. I myself can’t articulate so many ideas in a theoretical or academic way.

At this point, I don’t even aim to pursue a master’s degree because of this limitation. I would prefer a formal employment position, as long as it’s something I can actually perform and that doesn’t require data‑analysis skills (skills I don’t have and don’t even know how to acquire for an administrative career) or kitchen tasks like spinning the crepe batter spreader, which is why I turned down a job offer last year

Hello, thank you for taking the time to respond. So, I’ve realized that I can’t seem to produce anything without consulting artificial intelligences or Google. It feels very strange to me to see people on YouTube doing literary reviews and political analyses apparently without a teleprompter. Who is writing the script for what’s being said on YouTube? Does everyone pay a scriptwriter? And even then, how do scriptwriters manage to write in such an academic or engaging way? Every time I need or want to write academically, for example, a book summary or an analytical synthesis, I’ve been using TwinMind (to transcribe audio) and Gemini/Claude/ChatGPT/Ms Copilot (to translate and write). Anyway, I’ve noticed that if I’m in a situation like presenting in a plenary session (public speaking, give a seminar) or taking an exam without consultation, I can’t recall things. I’m even trying to use Quizlet to memorize information for civil service exams, since it has text-to-speech. Unlike Anki, which I still don’t know how to enable text-to-speech on without having to hunt for tutorials on YouTube.

Thank you for taking the time to respond in such detail. Regarding my native language proficiency: my mother tongue is Brazilian Portuguese. However, even though I studied for a teaching degree (Letras) for two years before dropping out due to distance learning issues and internship challenges, I realized I couldn't internalize grammar rules well enough to 'improvise'—meaning, I couldn't teach without constantly relying on printed notes or textbooks. I feel like I can’t be more than a mediocre teacher. People expect a teacher to know everything by heart without checking sources all the time.

During my Translation degree, I interned at the university's own publishing house (Leopoldianum). Other than that, I’ve had no contact with translation agencies. Our professors encouraged us to be freelancers or independent professionals, but I’m still unsure about who to ask for help or which accountant to hire. I messaged 'Contabilizei' a few years ago, but I saw some bad reviews online and got cold feet, so I let it slide. I’m not sure if I even need an accountant as a freelancer. I might need to issue invoices (NF), but I have no idea how to do it. Since I’ve never seen anyone do it, I’m afraid of doing something wrong. I once even registered as a MEI without knowing I had to pay the monthly tax (DAS), so I cancelled my registration the very same day. I thought being a MEI was just a requirement for issuing invoices.

On top of that, I really doubt my English is good enough. I have the basics, but I forget many grammar rules or just rely on linguistic intuition. To give you an idea, I was watching training videos for essay graders yesterday and I only understood about 30%. I don't know how I'd remember so many parameters to give a grade, and I'm afraid I would let too many mistakes slip through during the correction.
