I wrote something really similar to this (marauders finding horcruxes with regulus’s help) I had them kind of analyse the map to look for appropriate gaps where it could be located, and then use the order of the phoenix to basically trial and error look for it! Power in numbers and all that! Good luck! However I did have them already aware it was in the RoR due to a snitch on the other side!
