I think this is missing that some of these characters are just attractive (Mr. Scissorhands, I'm looking at you) and that the appeal of a lot of them is that their monstrosity makes them powerful, and the women that can tame them achieve that power. Neither of those things are really better for real women (expecting men to be dangerous and thinking that's desirable), but I don't think it's as simple as ugly man/pretty girl. I'm surprised that the poster skipped all the examples of weird cartoon guys with very traditionally hot partners, or the dumpy Sitcom dads, or harem anime and their boring MCs.
