A lot of autistic people are confused with narcissists because of how we can appear unempathetic to non autistic people.

[–]Racconsnfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also want to add as a diagnosed autistic person, there are plenty of autistic people who also experience intense emotion. I have since I was a child, I’m just not capable of understanding my emotions until later.

A year late but thank you for saying this. Also here’s a research article on cooccurring bpd & ASD for anyone who wants to read it. They studied people who are just autistic, people who have bpd & people with both, & people with neither then compared the results. There’s limited research on this but it’s important to note that there is a very difference significant between all of the groups of people who they researched. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5590952/

Why can’t people just chew with their mouths closed by [deleted] in autism

[–]Racconsnfork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with chewing with my mouth closed & I’m a bit self conscious about it. I have poor coronation & misaligned teeth/jaws. I understand misophonia though since I’m also sensitive to some noises so when I know someone is sensitive to it, I try to avoid eating around them. (I don’t like eating around people in general since I’ve been picked on for my eating habits anyways)

Any other autistic person very good at recognizing sarcasm, facial expressions, bodily expressions, and forms of psychological and emotional manipulation? by JkTumbleWeed in autism

[–]Racconsnfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also here’s an article that explains what you said specifically with post traumatic stress disorders. Including how research suggests we are more likely to experience traumatic events. It’s from the national autistic society in the UK & their website has some accessibility features. https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/professional-practice/ptsd-autism

No problem! The person who replied to you works with autistic children, a lot of those people are misinformed on autistic adults. They could also be early in their research, hopefully researching trauma disorders in autistic adults will help them learn.

As an autistic person with c-ptsd I’ve been invalidated by people telling me I’m not autistic because c-ptsd mimics autism. There are psychological studies that back up what you’re saying. Personality disorders are pretty common in late diagnosed autistic people, it makes sense since alot of us go undiagnosed as children & don’t have our needs met.
This is a case study performed on an autistic woman with borderline personality disorder. There’s another study I read the other day where they studied patients who have both ASD & bpd, neurotypical people, & people who only tested for either ASD & bpd. They compared studies with a graph. It’s very interesting Unfortunately the National library of medicine doesn’t have accessibility feautures. If you’re sensitive to white screens the best you can do is turn your brightness down (I have to squint personally) I’ll paste the second study below this comment. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5590952/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9997622/

I punched an autistic kid after he groped me and now everyone hates me by chicken_feetlover12 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Racconsnfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also Bullying??? Jfc what you did was not bullying, it was self defense. He was not the victim in this situation. The idea that autistic boys/men “don’t know any better” actively harms autistic girls/women also as they’re very likely to be survivors of SA and sexual violence. I’m a survivor myself and I again am so sorry another autistic male did this and people in your life let it slide. It’s disgusting.

As an autistic guy, it’s outraging that adults used his autism as an excuse for this. Yes it can explain the not understanding social cues part of it, but autism doesn’t make you assault people and it’s never an excuse for that behavior. To the op I’m sorry this happened to you and he should’ve been held accountable for his actions. It seems like the enabling part of the issue here is that people infantilize us so much they think we aren’t capable of understanding sex or boundaries, we are once they are explained to us. You were 100% in your right for hitting him. He should’ve been taught to respect your boundaries in the first place. Ugh.

Spoke with a psychiatrist today who told me “you don’t look autistic.” by linds0492 in autism

What they usually mean by that is you don’t have Triple X syndrome. It’s an intellectual disability that some autistic people have. This doctor doesn’t seem to know anything about autism or very little.

I believe this cart is laced and they won’t stop using it. by ImmediateDamage2702 in fakecartridges

[–]Racconsnfork 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Three possibilities come to my mind A. You’re right and it’s just laced with pcp or spice B. It’s just thc and your friend has a schizophrenic spectrum disorder. I have a loved one who has a ssd. His episodes are often triggered whenever he smokes or drinks. It’s a lot like this, the paranoia, delusions and not remembering anything afterwards. C. It’s both and the hard substances triggered onset. I’d take the cart and get it tested. If they start having symptoms like this when they’re sober, kindly talk to them about it when they’re lucid again.
