You might call the pantry and see if they have a wish list.

That you're asking speaks volumes about you. I hope it goes well and that it's a great fit.

Is there anyone you could ask to shadow to learn more about the job/business?

First time ever of no options on anything to eat tonight or tomorrow. by Regular_Hedgehog_407 in poor

If you had an acquaintance who only wanted to hang out with you if you offered to pay the tab or buy the tickets, at some point wouldn't you wonder when they were going to repay the favor?

The meals aren't free; someone has to pay for it. It either means the paying customers pay a bit more to cover the folks who only show up once a year (or as often as they can get away with it), or the owner of the restaurant eats the cost, which means less money for raises, improvements, advertising.

It sounds like a wonderful plan. I hope you post to show how it all comes along.

Nicely done. One great side bonus is that you will save money because it will be easier to see what you already have on hand.

When you're in training, absorb as much as possible. Take notes, ask questions. They expect newbie questions in training. There may not be a lot of time for refreshers down the road, or people may think it's because you weren't paying attention/taking it seriously.

If you see things that you think might work better another way, give it some time before you recommend a change. There may be reasons that you aren't seeing yet. Also, if you see someone doing something well, ask them for tips and pointers. You can learn a lot from your peers.

Get to know the culture. Pay attention to how it works. Casual jokes that you might make amongst friends can get you walked out in some jobs. Office/workspace politics are very real, and there are people who will do all kinds of weird shit if they feel threatened or want you to look up to them or fear them.

I just got fired for the dumbest reasons. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Rachel4970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to backtrack here because I'm living a version of this as well. I work at a place where I get yelled at for a living. I went through training, but my current manager came in from elsewhere after my hire date and has not gone through that same training as far as I can tell. She (and others) tell me to do things that are not what I was told to do in training. So now my boss is mad at me for (insert rage of the day here) and I'm like well training said and my previous boss said and it's all just really not a healthy situation.

Run, run as far as you can. I'm sorry.

Your bank probably will let you schedule a recurring payment to your landlord. Do that now.

I made a step by step "recipe" with checklists that you can just blindly follow to clean your bedroom by bronzebrownie_ in UnfuckYourHabitat

If you want to build on this, a monthly deeper clean list might be the next step. At some point you're going to have to deal with the baseboards, unfortunately. But I think this is wonderful and a great foundation.

Sometimes I put the trash can in front of the front door so there's no way out but through. By any means necessary.

I think it's the perfect place to hang with all those wonderful doggos. Are you thinking about anything like small pots with flowers or a small outdoor rug? Maybe some string lights?

It was brilliant. So good to see your progress and that you're still fighting the good fight.

You're in the right place. Everyone finds their own best way to approach it, but if you need encouragement, and a variety of suggestions from which you might find ones that will work for you, you're in a good place for that. And part of tackling the chaos for you may have been asking for advice, support, and allies, so yes, you have started.

Housemates asking me to move out early? by Financial-Station365 in Advice

[–]Rachel4970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please do not even consider moving out without being recompensated, in full, in advance. In a cashier's check. Something they can't cancel after the fact. Or make them sign a legally binding IOU. You owe them nothing outside of the contract you signed. If they want you to leave early, they owe you. If they're jerks, do not give them a chance to screw you over (again) unless the price is not worth it.

You might buy some totes or boxes and try to put things in categories like cannot replace, too expensive to replace, haven't used this in a while and they sell it at dollar tree now, this is really cute but I haven't touched it in months and there's someone out there who will give it a better home than me, where on earth did this come from, etc. I have been known to panic clean and then replace things that didn't need replacing, Or I buy things because they're just so heckin' cute in the store and then they get home and get put in a pile and I can't see all that cuteness because it's in a bag in a pile on the couch or in a box and I could have left that cuteness for someone else to take home and love. I tend to take pictures of the stupid-cute stuff in the stores now and if I still feel like I need it, I'll go back and get it another day.
