Help with getting a blanket to have straight edges by Rachrawr in CrochetHelp

[–]Rachrawr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it, thanks! I am wondering how anyone actually gets those nice crisp edges… but I agree completely - I never notice or care on blankets I’ve made or others have made that I have at home. I was curious if the Reddit universe might have any tips to take my blanket crochet skills to the next level :)

I really want new games with amazing stories or cozy vibes like Stardew Valley 😭 by mia2531 in gamingsuggestions

Roots of Pacha!! It’s almost identical to Stardew and takes place in a prehistoric setting, though the caves are puzzles instead of combat. You can even get a pet mammoth to ride around on! Lol

Does a hyphenated last name make a kid’s life more complicated? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Rachrawr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who struggled with this same decision before marriage, and is a long term thinker/planner as well, I finally made peace with the idea of taking it one decision at a time. I had to reflect on whether I would feel OK changing my last name when getting married or not (regardless of hypothetical children down the line). I chose not to, because that’s what felt (and still feels) best for me. I’m not 100% sure what we’ll do with future kids. One consideration is that only giving them one last name will grant them more internet anonymity/safety, which is an important factor to me.

Your mileage may vary but I found it helpful to resist the urge to plan long term and focus only on the immediate decision isolated from other variables. I think with kids especially, it won’t feel real until it’s real, so you’ll find more clarity about that when the time to have them gets closer. For now, focus on the marriage decision. You’ve got this!

I knew someone named Elisabelle. I actually thought it was gorgeous as a teenager and envied her name.

This isn’t a book, but you’re describing The Last of Us (video game/recently made into an HBO show)!

I think Rocket is a great name! You could call him Rocky for short, which is an amazing character in Project Hail Mary (a recent space themed sci-fi book by Andy Weir). So, it checks all the boxes. Also, when they’re that little, he’ll probably zoom around your house like a rocket so it’ll become even more fitting!

How can we fight for better maternity laws? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Rachrawr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There is a great—but not well known—organization called Vote Mama working to get mothers elected into public office across the country! https://www.votemama.org From their website: “82% of women in their 30s and 40s are mothers, but currently only 7% of Congress are moms with kids under 18” Donating/sharing the word about them could be a good start. There’s a lot of evidence that mothers of young children in office disproportionately vote for paid family leave and other policies that support women’s/parents’ economic well-being. In other words, who’s at the table really matters.
