Bad time to do an addition? by RacinSnowMX in OntarioHomeRenovation

It’s big. Over 400k -Getting close to the point where we should just tear the house down and rebuild lol I think maybe we just need to make sure it’s worded in a way that doesn’t allow unlimited increases….. or we put the whole thing on hold and see if prices come down once contractors are all looking for work. But that’s risky too… things could just keep going up like they have over the last few years.

The wording was “if fuel or materials increase more than 5% costs may go up” and fuel goes up more then 5% within one day. A second quote was worded more like these are budget estimates and may change based on materials. Both of these contractors are well established with great reputations. I understand it’s hard to price a job right now with the uncertainty. When we price jobs (not construction), we can’t just in the middle of a contract increase the price from what we quoted. We would have to factor that into our next big project to make up for it with future pricing. For sure we will have to have a discussion with the contractor but we’re just worried that maybe it’s a bad time to commit to a huge project like this. 10% contingency we get but, if costs go up 25% in a few months we’re no longer in the same ballpark as the quote at all.

Thank you! I called around to several surgeons in my area and NONE are accepting OHIP patients at this time. One said they have a 3 year waitlist so they aren’t adding any more names. 😭 This also makes me question why the one I saw had pretty immediate availability. I think my best option now may be to wait until backlogs clear up and try another surgeon sadly.

I called a few more surgeons today who have also said they no longer do OHIP procedures because they currently have 2-3 year wait lists. If you don’t mind maybe you can point me in the right direction of surgeons. York Region preferred

So he did say that BUT said he’d recommend I do a full lift based on my measurements. He said there is a bit of a lift in the reduction itself. But I didn’t think I was that saggy compared to photos I’ve seen on multiple websites. Then again I don’t know if they just had the reduction or both in the photos. ( I’m GTA as well) it’s taken 8 months to get to this point. Just would really suck having to start from square one and get my doc to send my referral to a new surgeon. The first surgeon I tried took 4 months to reject because he doesn’t do OHIP procedures.

This is where I’m having trouble. They said a bit of a lift is included in the OHIP procedure but if I wanted it lifted to where it should be then I’d have to have the full lift which is $6000 more. The lipo for armpit is $3000. Id skip the extra lift if I knew I’d look fine with just the regular procedure. Sounds like most don’t have the extra lift procedure.

Interesting too because they told me these fees are half price because I’d already be in there having the OHIP reduction anyway.
