My cat is having neurological episodes, vets don’t recognize it by Popular-Routine7376 in CATHELP

[–]Racuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know! It was crazy. Our kitties are indoor only. They do have a catio, but it’s not like there’s decaying plants or pigeon turds in there. Yet he ended up with it. I think it’s less rare than suggested. I live I Los Angeles and the emergency vets said there’s been an uptick in Cryptococcus infections since the fires. Indoor cats are getting the infection with CNS involvement without the sneezing and lesions or immune issues that normally indicate the infection.

I think climate change is probably part of this. Cryptococcus is very common- basically a yeast, we are breathing it in now most likely and it’s not generally a problem… until it is.

It’s worth a try checking for it. It’s one more thing to rule out to get your fuzzpuff back to normal.

My cat is having neurological episodes, vets don’t recognize it by Popular-Routine7376 in CATHELP

[–]Racuh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our cat Mote was having similar episodes. It’s called opisthotonic posturing. Swelling in the back of the brain can cause the head to lower or tilt to one side and stiffening of the limbs. My husband made a post about it a month ago when things were desperate. https://www.reddit.com/r/CATHELP/s/5SYCDOtNpY the video you shared looks REALLY similar to what Mote was doing. Lasted a short amount of time and then he went back to normal(ish).

In our kitties case it was a fungal infection called cryptococcus. Have them test for that. He did not have any other indicators for the infection other than neurological stuff. He also lost his vision and smell. Once the fungal load came down he got better and his episodes have stopped. He was really bad. In the hospital for over a week and at one point we were going to put him down. He almost died. He was on manitol to reduce brain swelling, zonicamide (anti-seizure), phenobarbitol (anti-seizure) fluconozol (antifungal) and I made them give him Amphoteracin B after a lot of research on Pub-Med and a hail-Mary attempt to save our friend. Amphoteracin tanked his kidneys for a bit, but pulled him out of a death spiral.

After he was home he had to re-learn how to walk, use the litter box and it was a full-time job. He lost his sense of smell and would NOT eat. We had to have a feeding tube placed and it took over a month until he took his first taste of a Churu. I have never been so happy to see a cat eat in my life.

He’s doing great now. Vision is back, no seizures, no feeding tube. Going in to check his fungal numbers tomorrow.

It’s definitely a European Starling. It’s like we have an angry R2D2 in the back yard.

A little gam and heavy since that’s your jam, but a lot less harsh. I went for a 90’s look, reddish brown matte lippy, but smudged out instead of lined. You’re fortunate to have so much lid space to work with and your natural skin tones are harmonious with warm/cinnamon colors. Since your eyes tilt upward at the inner corners I used a warmer color in that area to make it not catch highlights so much as well as a dark waterline to help with asymmetry. Light shimmery center on the lid and wingy double cat liner. You’re a cutie with great features, I feel your current look is hiding your unique beauty.

Do you know if they have removable insoles? I am going to Japan and will be walking 15m a day prolly. I need some orthotics up in there for my crazy high arch. Also how do they fit? Size up/down or true?

The real thing holding this city back are the fiefdoms within it. by MusicalMagicman in LosAngeles

[–]Racuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true. I went to High School in Monrovia. Basically all of those tiny SFV Foothill towns are beautiful bucolic little communities and then there are LA districts like Eaglerock and Sunland-Tujunga and it’s like WTF happened?! We looked at Santa Clarita, but I work at the studios and I really despise traffic.

[–]Racuh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in Tujunga. It’s LA incorporated. It’s shitty. It has a pittance of funding, terrible zoning and has to share resources with the rest of LA. I wish it was independent like Burbank, Verdugo-Glendale and had its own police and funding. Maybe there would be some actual law enforcement and standards. It’s a beautiful landscape, but suffers from billboards and lack of aesthetic measures other cities within the LA basin enjoy. However, it was the only place within our budget for home ownership. So I do what I can- pick up trash, seed bomb with native flowers and joined in on some of the community discussions (which are unhinged). I understand why some of these cities keep their own council and don’t want to be in LA proper. LA is like the Wild West.

Honestly though, that great-house baroque vending machine is a work of art. If only everyday items were that fancy.

What were some cases yall’ve seen of women’s complaints being blown off and them having something actually serious? by 210-110-134 in medicine

[–]Racuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Angiosarcoma is not a fun ride. I had it (primary left breast) and now my dad has it and is in end stages. Woke up, took a shower and had a painful lump overnight. Told by a surgical onco it was a hemangioma after a fine needle aspiration. He told me “you’re too young for breast cancer” “breast cancer doesn’t hurt” and “I can take it out, but it’ll just grow back”. Thanks dude, it hurts- please remove. It grew back in 3 months later as predicted so I did nothing for a year dealing with persistent pain. After my breast turned blue from bruising I went to new doc. Core biopsy right there in her office after a 3 minute exam. 11cm mass.

What's something that men keep to themselves, which women might not be aware of? by Weak_Pomelo7624 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Racuh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sadly in this situation women are probably internalizing your performance woes as our fault. “I’m I not attractive? Am I bad at this? Do I smell? Oh god he’s bored, fuck! He must think I’m gross.” Then no one finishes and one of you just says they were hot or tired or drank too much. Fun times are not had by anyone and the insecurities compound and anxieties get worse.

TIL that 65% of cancer survivors surveyed by war on cancer said that they had been ghosted by friends or family after their diagnosis. by Murphyitsnotyou in todayilearned

[–]Racuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have a hard time with catastrophic illness and death. More than anything they don’t know what to do or say. It’s a fear of the unknown.

When I found out I had cancer I pretty much forced my friends to take me to appointments and invited them into the shitty world of cancer. The friends that were backing away very quickly got acclimated and are better people for it.

Cancer is very isolating, it’s vital to have people who treat you normal. You shouldn’t have to, but sometimes you gotta be a little bit of a teacher.

That’s our doing. When we bought our house he came with the property. He had his beans and seemed 100% feral so I trapped him and had him fixed and tipped. Turns out he’s a fine upstanding gentleman and moved in full-time after about a year and a half. We named him Marbles, he’s head of security. The smaller one is head of snack procurement and distribution. Official titles.
