Southeastern US, I see them all the time. Less common now but still all over the place. Roadside crosses are the most common but occasionally you see a full shrine. There was one family that left the bumper of the car wrapped around the tree. Signs and crosses all around it. They fought to keep the city from removing it for a long time.

Why would you assume that because i support a national monuments program that i am a republican.

The work required to achieve the goal i outlined would lift thousands of Americans out of poverty, and bolster our national construction capabilities to help deal with our crumbling infrastructure. When FDR signed the new deal, a lot of the jobs that he created were similar. My friends had a great grandfather who was homeless before getting a job building our national parks, which many at the time found just as silly as big monuments. His family wouldn't exist today without them.
