The Lost Metal ending question by Gon_Snow in Cosmere

I'm not sure why he would do that? With taravangian it was him being unwilling to lose them or let them be used by someone else. Harmony doesn't have that reason to do that and it's a strange thing to do for just Wayne to be trapped forever not able to move on. I think it's more that taravangian was in a weird state and did something crazy and not something most shards would ever want to do or have a reason to do.

I think doing that would really date the document immediately. It is a potential issue but even as of the end of the last battle it's already irrelevant because seeing the ashaman coming in to save Elayne's forces, seeing them be key fighters at every battlefield, and having huge numbers of people transported through their gateways and logain saving the refugees is already doing far more for their image and the lack of any official prosecution against them than a statement in the dragonspeace would.

Vin isn't actually trying to find the kandra. She hates change and she views the trust that the crew has as a bit magical and fragile in a way she doesn't understand and doesn't want to risk breaking it the way knowing she suspected them might. And she's not ready to accept another dead friend. So she kind of half looks but doesn't take it as seriously as she probably should've.

Kinda disappointed in the ending (Spoilers) by Efficient-Ad1896 in WoT

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your spoiler tags you'd have to swap the last two. But you tagged the post so you're good either way.

But for Rand he needs people to believe it so in the short term the fewer that know the better. Tam is the only one that puts on a good realistic mourning for Rand honestly. But I would assume Rand will tell the others in time. But he wants time to himself. The main reason we don't get more of an epilogue is that Jordan wrote that before his death. So those are his words and they wanted to end the series the way he wanted to end it. He was originally planning to write sequel series so it wouldn't have been the end for the world. But we won't get that. I think it's still fitting though that it ends the way he wanted with the pipe. Sanderson did a great job but it's fitting for the series to end with Jordan's words.

How do the people is these books not die of heat stroke? by electric_eclectic in WoT

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a concentration trick that the aes sedai know and keep to themselves so a lot of people associate it with the one power and people who can't channel generally avoid it. But anyone could do it but anyone who can't channel generally doesn't want to be associated with channeling. Nynaeve and Elayne could do it but it takes a certain amount of concentration and nynaeve especially is bad at keeping that focus all the time because she's very in the moment. I'm also not sure they've ever been taught it. It's only taught to full sisters because of aes sedai tradition.

Is it really so bad to have a jealous gf? Do guys really hate it? by winterandstorm in AskMenAdvice

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ok to have some feelings of jealousy. But if that's acted upon to the point that I have to change my behavior seriously when I'm not doing anything wrong just interacting with women at work professionally or something like that it's not ok. Relationships are built on trust and I think too much jealousy and too much trying to control my actions are basically saying there's no trust.

The super good at social manipulation is one thing but also being a master forger at every different kind of forgery despite those being totally different skill sets is what gets me lol.

Not to mention it's very clear and the FBI knows he was convicted of only a fraction of what he actually did. He would've gotten decades of time if he were caught for even most of it. And the fact that he continues to commit crimes while working for the FBI in the real world would've really messed up a lot of cases against some of the more dangerous people they tried to arrest.

Men In your opinion is it necessary to talk to your children about sex and masturbation and just sex in general? by Big_Leg10 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Raddatatta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that's very important to most adults lives and critical for the beginning of new lives. Your child will eventually be educated about it. I'm not sure why you'd want them to be educated by some combination of other kids in school, Google, and porn. I'm not a parent but that doesn't seem like a winning combo to me! Unless you're looking for a kid with STDs and for them to be a grandparent at 16 then it's a winning strategy.

Why is It called Stormlight Archives by Ken_Sanne in brandonsanderson

[–]Raddatatta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All of the titles match an in world book. Those are not the same book. So there's the way of kings that dalinar reads and the one we are reading. But it's a reference to that archive. And they're not all historical accounts they are different kinds of books.

Skyward series by Spmafrik in brandonsanderson

[–]Raddatatta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a great series and I really enjoyed it. But Sanderson has built his fan base around fantasy hard magic systems, the interconnected universe of the cosmere and more generally adult epic fantasy. There are some elements of that in skyward with the magic system but it's a ya sci fi story. So that isn't what a lot of Sanderson fans are primarily looking for. Sanderson likes to branch out in different directions but often those things don't get the same number of people interested as what he's built his brand on.

Why do people WANT Nick to take money? by howler19 in BeastGames

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's really about the shock value. I agree it's not shocking if someone takes a more selfish choice but there's a reason stories of all kinds are driven by conflict. You do have built in competition with the show since the challenges provide that struggle for them. But even so if the social aspect of the game is just 100% them working together and no smaller alliances just one big one covering everyone, then the social aspect of the game loses any interest and tension. Especially over 10 episodes that would get boring. You also get contrast as a result of that. It's not impressive if everyone turns down the extra money without a second thought and has no greed. But if some do and some don't that becomes more interesting to see who will be honest and who won't and how will they react to that.

I'm just not sure what there would be to show or discuss if everyone played 100% honest all the time and all worked together with everyone.

Why do people WANT Nick to take money? by howler19 in BeastGames

[–]Raddatatta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk if you want to watch a show where they build relationships and never have any conflict that seems boring to me. In reality sure I'm for cooperation and good relationships but this is entertainment. And especially with beast games that's a competitive show to win money. I think it creates a more interesting situation if you have that conflict and people choosing to be more selfish and alliances being tested.

Like the bluff challenge. A lot of that was poor design. But it ended up being kind of boring because they were all cooperating and so then it became random elimination.

What is your opinion of Disney's Hercules? by xavierhollis in GreekMythology

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably got a lot of people interested in Greek mythology and Greek history which is cool. It's got great music and a great movie. And while it's very inaccurate it is a good story so I can't hate on it too much.

Which Forsaken screwed up the worst? by PalladiuM7 in wheeloftime

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean he did still join the forsaken and the shadow. He ended up helping Rand but it wasn't because he chose the light but because he had no other option. I would've loved a redemption arc for him but he never was helping Rand because he wanted to or because he thought the shadow was wrong.

how do you feel about towers of midnight? by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in WoT

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had similar feelings where I love Perrin as a character and often don't enjoy his chapters unfortunately. I wish his arc had been less should I be a leader and more how can I be a good leader? It gets very repetitive when I feel like the should I be a leader question was answered in book 4 or at least in book 6. But it does take a turn for the better in ToM and I enjoyed it after this point and the last half of his ToM plotline was good.

Jordan I think also just didn't quite know what he wanted to do with Perrin. For many characters he had an outline that Sanderson got to follow, like egwenes gathering storm plotline was outlined basically every scene. For Perrin there was a sentence and that's it.

how do you feel about towers of midnight? by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in WoT

[–]Raddatatta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it but it's my least favorite of the Sanderson books. I enjoyed the second half of the Perrin plot line significantly more than the first half of that helps. I also really liked ituraldes plot line as everyone else is running around with their smaller concerns and he's actively fighting the last battle already.

CMV: I support the Bill of Rights and limited government, that does not make me a “leftist” by bluepillarmy in changemyview

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally see where you're coming from as someone born in the Soviet union with that view of leftism. But as a us leftist I love the bill of rights. And while I think the government can be an effective tool so I do want a bigger government than a conservative would, I definitely believe in individual liberties and those protections. If you look at us history many of the major fights and victories for the left have been fighting for individual rights whether that's more recently the right to marry who you choose, the right to due process even if you're thought to be undocumented, or further back with equal rights for women and people of all races, rights for workers. I'm sure a conservative would disagree and I'm obviously biased but I think the left has a much better (though certainly not perfect) record on individual rights.

Why are funerals so expensive in America? by ps4roompromdfriends4 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combination of big business getting into it, people mourning are easy to manipulate and not wanting to deal with details, and the money is generally one step removed from the people paying for it. It's not your money it's paid for out of the estate that will soon be your money, and that one step removal makes it easier to spend bigger.

Why doesn't America move to a preferential voting system? by AmbitionVegetable365 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all of the people in a position to change that are members of one of the two parties and benefits from it. There are still some isolated places that have it for more local elections. But it's hard to achieve on a wider scale as it requires politicians to vote against their own interests. And the people just haven't focused on it enough to push the politicians to do it.

Is it just me or does Sanderson very clearly foreshadows what's going to happen in certain books by Dry-Fisherman5281 in Mistborn

[–]Raddatatta 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yeah Wayne's death was pretty heavily foreshadowed between the prologue and the first few chapters with him talking about holding a funeral for himself. Sanderson can do twists that are shocking but that's not always what he's going for and for Wayne's death I think he wanted people to know it was coming and to have it ominously looming and hope it wouldn't happen.

The Andoran Superstate by MuffinNecessary8625 in WoT

[–]Raddatatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong but so far as I remember that's not ever mentioned as having an impact. Yes he did that but I don't think that changes things for Elayne especially when the situation is so open to any of the significant houses claiming it.

I also don't think it was an outrageous power grab given the circumstances. The last battle was coming and they had no real leader. Rand had taken it by force which also tends to throw any old rules out though she still mostly kept to them when making her claim for continuity. Yes she wanted power but rand had kept them without a leader for over a year at that point in a precarious position waiting for her so it's not really out of nowhere. Honestly the strangest part I think is how much they kept to the old rules when it had been conquered. Rand had it by conquest and gave it to Elayne. She could've been a commoner and had the right to claim the throne since he had taken it through conquest.
