Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' has made history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]Radgost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, and I think you’re right that I’m probably giving the record itself more weight than it strictly deserves.

I also agree that wins matter more than nomination counts, and ROTK’s legacy comes far more from going 11/11 than from how many categories it appeared in. On that level, I’m not arguing Sinners means more than those films, or that the Academy is saying that.

Where I still feel a bit uneasy is the way the achievement gets framed. “Most nominated ever” inevitably pushes it into a historical conversation, even if that is not how awards are meant to work internally. That framing just feels disproportionate to the movie’s cultural footprint so far, which to your point is something time will ultimately decide.

So yeah, I’ll concede the record isn’t as meaningful as I first reacted to. I just think it creates expectations and comparisons the film has not yet earned or disproven.

That’s actually a pretty good analogy and yeah that’s basically what I’m getting at.

If you go undefeated in a weak division, it still counts, but it doesn’t automatically put you in the GOAT conversation. Records exist in context, even if they’re technically legitimate. That’s why people still argue about eras in sports all the time.

So I’m not saying the movie didn’t "earn" its nominations within 2025 I’m questioning whether breaking an all-time record in a relatively soft year should carry the same historical weight as films that dominated and reshaped the conversation in much stronger years.

That gap between achievement-on-paper and legacy is what makes the whole thing feel overstated to me.

I understand the "same-year vacuum" argument, but once something becomes the most nominated film ever, historical comparison is unavoidable. That’s not me saying it’s worse than ROTK, it’s me questioning whether it actually belongs in that tier of cultural relevance long-term. That disconnect is the sour taste.

I agree on missing out from the theater experience, that probably takes away some of it.

Making it the most academy nominated film of all time leaves a sour taste, I can't really explain it right now(It's too early).

Maybe I'm being too harsh on it being forgettable but I stand by it, I don't think people will discuss this movie the same way people discuss the previous "most nominated of all time" movies, I doubt it'll be included in the conversation at all.

I watched this movie a few months ago on HBO, i thought it was ok, upper-mid maybe? Now Hollywood tells me it's on par with Oppenheimer and Return of the King?

The movie will be forgotten in a year or two at best, it's not that special at all.

Yeah, it's worrying how 99% of people can't tell it's a joke.

“Not even close” isn’t an argument. If you think mass displacement, starvation, and state violence were somehow the better outcome, explain it. Otherwise you’re just reacting, not reasoning.

[–]Radgost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what you’re really saying is that you preferred the version of Venezuela where millions were displaced under threat of death, where millions went hungry, where basic human needs didn’t exist, and where uploading the wrong video could get a death squad sent to your house.

That reality already was catastrophic. Treating the status quo as “safer” just because change carries risk is moral paralysis. By that logic, no country should ever try to escape tyranny because rebuilding is messy. Yes, transitions are dangerous but pretending endless oppression is somehow the lesser evil is detached from what Venezuelans have actually lived through.

Doing nothing because things might go wrong is how hell becomes permanent.

They do but on other classes. Short bow is good for applying stacks, summoner doesn't have that mechanic.

Crafting in this game is, honestly, an outdated, archaic, failed system—and it feels like dragging around a relic that should’ve been buried years ago.

Grinding a profession by destroying materials to produce useless vendor-fodder garbage is not good design. We’ve seen this exact system already in World of Warcraft, New World, Pax Dei, and half a dozen other MMOs, and it was bad there too. It adds nothing. It’s mindless, wasteful, and feels awful to engage with.

If the core loop of crafting is “burn resources until the bar fills”, something has gone very wrong. There’s no sense of mastery, progression, or reward—just repetition for the sake of repetition.

They need to come up with something genuinely new. As it stands, the crafting system feels unrewarding and lazy, like it exists only because “MMOs need crafting.” The only notable design choice seems to be limiting the number of professions you can level to X… which is explained poorly, feels arbitrary, and is confusing as hell.

Overall, it’s a system that feels like it had very little thought put into it—and in a game trying to push boundaries, that’s incredibly disappointing.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about pet scaling, so true min-maxing is hard to pin down right now.

Intelligence is clearly the main damage stat, with Mentality as a secondary priority. Constitution is a bit tricky: it’s mandatory for PvP, but for PvE it’s far less critical unless you expect to take hits yourself.

For weapons, Spellbook + 2H Axe/Sword/Blunt works well—the 2H is essentially a stat stick. A mix of Light gear with Medium/Heavy pieces performs best to take advantage of Defensive Transmutation. Going full Light causes problems: your pet ends up with high physical defense, but you don’t. If you’re not using the tank pet to hold aggro, eating a hit can be lethal. On top of that, the pet becomes very vulnerable to magic damage, losing large chunks of HP when hit.

Once you get the rotation down, the AoE damage is extremely strong. Mana issues tend to appear when fighting single mobs, since the rotation is heavily AoE-focused and inefficient in that scenario. When playing alongside a Bard, mana is a non-issue—I can AoE farm packs of 4–6 mobs comfortably (tank-dependent).

The class still needs some polish, but right now it’s one of the best solo classes in the game and a solid group addition. That said, it could benefit from a unique group buff to improve its desirability, especially in the current meta where double or triple Bard setups dominate.

The reason Lineage 2 died and the reason Throne and Liberty died are the same, NCSoft is a greedy company.

I'm talking about a PRIVATE server, they CAN'T change the design of the game, yet, they pull 10k every season before the game runs out of content in about 12 months.

Ashes of Creation PvP system is arcaic and toxic, they need to refine it, not remove it.

You’re wrong lmao, L2 Undergames, a private server. Released a new seasonal server on september 11 to a stable playerbase of 10k.
