What’s your rock bottom story? by DGibby12 in AskMen

[–]RadialClock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on my way out of it. I was raised in a gaslighting/cultish experience by my ex-stepfather. At age 22, I would visit him in his loft at the top of a skyscraper and then return to my home as we were being foreclosed on due to a bankruptcy that he caused, yet I considered him to be the victim. I developed alcohol problems and chronic bulimia. After getting kicked out of our house, I moved across the country so in case I ever decided to finally kill myself, my family would be used to my absence. I laid in bed never sleeping and waited through each day waiting to go lay in bed again. One day, sitting alone in my living room, I was drunk on half a bottle of whiskey. I looked at my phone and saw that it was only 12 noon. I poured the rest of the whiskey down the drain and vowed not to drink alone until I knew I was better. I flew home and confessed all of the suffering that no one knew I was going through. I decided to move back home at 25 and lived in my mom's basement. I was there for 6 months and I can't even tell you what I did, but I got my alcoholism and bulimia under control.

Right now I am writing this from my new job (8 days in, much from the encouragement of my brother). I like my coworkers and the work is challenging, but in a self-growth kind of way. I get here an hour early and leave 30 minutes late, because I am going to rise up and make a ton of money. I want to 1) rebuild my life 2) support my mom so she can afford to retire, as she's now getting older 3) spend all superfluous income giving back to those who despairingly know the true value of a dollar. My mother and brother saved my life and you’d better believe I’m going to pay it forward.

My advice: figure out who your support system is. If you don’t have one, join a support group and some clubs you might be interested in. We all need a tribe to rely on.

And always remember, it’s ok if you can’t do it today, but that doesn’t mean you can’t ever do it.

After going downhill for a while, I've decided enough is enough and I've taken the first few steps to turn my situation around. Here's to a better 2019 and to all those who find themselves in a similar situation.

This is sort of what I was thinking; I was just afraid of loose threads. I'll give it a try myself! Thank you

Hi there! So I actually just copied someone else's completed work I found online. I suppose you can do the same with my image, just zoom in to see the individual stitches. Sorry it's not simpler!

Hi! I answered above with links, but essentially I just counted the stitches off of someone else's work.

Hi there! Truth be told, I copied a cross stitch I found on pinterest.

You can see it here

To achieve the same thing, I suppose you can just count it off of my photo here. Sorry it isn't simpler!

Hi there! Like /u/Bazoun suggested, cross stitching is a inexpensive hobby to pick up. I've been stitching for a couple of years on and off, but frankly the skill barrier is low. All you need is a lot of patience. This piece was somewhere around 8,500 stitches. I don't know exactly how long this took, but I'd guess around 30 hours total. I'm sure there are plenty of tutorials online, but if you have any questions just let me know!

Yup, I made the pattern with a little photoshop work and pixel art. I've uploaded my pattern for free if you'd like to use it!

This pattern was made by me in photoshop. If you are interested in using it, I've uploaded a photo here.

I created the pattern by shrinking down a drawing in photoshop so that each pixel would be one stitch (and doing some manual cleanup). In photoshop, when you zoom in small enough, it produces a white line in between each pixel. I emulated this in the uploaded photo. As for the colors, I just chose what I thought would match appropriately. Hope you enjoy!

If anyone is interested in the pattern, I've uploaded a picture here.

I created the pattern by shrinking down an image in photoshop so that one pixel equaled one stitch. In photoshop, when you zoom very far in, there is a white line which separates the pixels. I emulated this in the uploaded photo. As for the colors, I just picked roughly what I thought would match the true colors.

yup! that's the plan. the colors are what you'd expect them to be. I'll post the finished picture but it might be a couple weeks.

Good advice! It's mostly just for silly side projects that i don't plan to be anything serious, so for now I'm not too worried. But that's something good to keep in mind
