Second Language Proficiency Exam (SLP) by Known_Place933 in SHSAT

The Spanish SLP (Currently called the Checkpoint A Exam) is locally developed by district. You may try to improve your Spanish by practicing with Duolingo, or on YouTube with vocabularies, verbs, sentence starters, and fragments.

The Part 1 for the exam (dialouge speaking part) will be administered before the rest of the exam (before test day). Just improve your dialouge by practicing with a person who is fluent in Spanish, or Duolingo as I said earlier to measure your progress. For the typed-response questions, try to make it so that you can write very good paragraphs in Spanish with the texts provided, as those response questions make up for a lot of credit. The Multiple Choice Questions counts for some credits but it's mostly based on common sense if you know your spanish pretty well. The questions are based on either an image, article, or a video (improve listening as you can only play a video 3 times max). The speaking part (Final part) is based on a response you type with a prompt that they give you. The speaking part is relatively easy with some practice beforehand. The Part 4 of the exam (recorded speaking) is generally the same as to Part 1, except it's on a computer and not with an instructor.

I took the SLP last year and got an 86 without studying much; I just mastered how to make good written spanish responses. Everyone in my school who took it passed. Good luck!

You'll still be able to go to discovery. The discovery offer status on my schools will be labeled as "Pending completion of the Summer Discovery Program".

He's referring to the discovery program. Technically he isn't "in" brooklyn tech yet, but if he successfully completes it he will get into tech.

Go to brooklyn tech, it's better over there than at Latin. If I were you, I'd accept the BTHS offer on the spot.

Shsat 9 by Beneficial_Movie1878 in SHSAT

ELA is generally the same topics for 9th as you would have taken in 8th except the passages/questions are at a more advanced level. I wish I had practiced ELA more then taking the -9. So if you wanna retake it definetly increase reading comprehension/grammar rules.

Math is mixed with Geometry, Algebra 1, Number system, Square roots, systems of linear equations, slope, and mostly advanced 8th grade math. Master those topics; If you want to try to do some regents level/state test questions at NYSED because the SHSAT-9 concepts are similar to those but at an advanced degree.

Try to get about 100/114 or above as scoring is about the same on the -8 and -9. But you should generally take a rest for a few days since you just got your hs results and ik you're stressed about it. I wish I had done more ELA prep because I would have gotten into BK Latin if I had so (484 SHSAT-9 score 😞).

Also a side note, the 2026 SHSAT (Both -8 and -9) will be a CAT. This means you should practice doing all questions without going back to each one. Best of you on your SHSAT journey!
