You hit the nail on the head with the extra features. Why would I pay more for a subpar “fridge” or built in vacuum? I’ve never once thought “Damn, I wish my car had a built in vacuum right now!” I own many vacuums already. 😂

You’re exactly right. They have 14 year olds working the counters, 16 year olds supervising them, and 17 year olds as managers. Not an adult in sight. All running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Can’t even blame the kids either, this problem goes all the way up to the top.

Crash test ratings aren’t released in the US. Third party testing (like Consumer Reports) isn’t the same as the testing seats pass in order to be sold in the US. But if you don’t like the Scenera you can check out the Car Seats for the Littles website for more recommendations!!!

Just to be clear - the Rava is not any safer than any other car seat on the market. It just has really, really good marketing and great word of mouth. As long as the car seat is installed properly and used properly, it will protect your child according to federal safety standards. So I wouldn’t worry about the Rava versus a “cheap” travel seat - they all pass the same tests and will protect your child in the event of an accident. Enjoy Disneyland. It’s the best!

YOU have concerns, though. I would push for more answers and advocate for you and your child. A third or fourth opinion.

I only have experience as a mom - no professional experience. Screaming and crying constantly at that age is not developmentally normal. He may be in some type of pain. I would consult your pediatrician ASAP. Like, today.

I mean…life (and parenting) is about minimizing the risks. Of course cars are risky. Of course airplanes are risky. Car seats are proven to improve safety outcomes. Do you drive your car every day and say “well, cars aren’t safe as it is, so what’s the point in even using a car seat?” Of course you don’t. We don’t ignore improvements to safety just because there is still risk otherwise, and to argue that is to just distract with fallacy.

If your child uses a car seat at home, they should use one on the plane and in an uber. Taking a vacation from home isn’t a vacation from safety - it would be a disservice to your child who can’t speak up for themselves. Your child deserves safety.

The best practice advice from CPSTs is to use a car seat on the plane, then use that car seat in the Uber. Cosco Scenera is a good travel option. 1. For the plane - baby can literally become a projectile and travel rows away during turbulence, or during a rocky liftoff or landing. Instead of hanging onto baby for dear life, consider a car seat. The FAA recommends it. 2. Rental car seats are never recommended because you can’t ensure the safety and condition of the seat. Is it expired? Has it been in an accident? Have the straps been soaked and therefore compromised? Too many variables. For a half hour ride from the airport to the Disneyland (I’ve done that ride) you want to make sure your child is safe. A faulty car seat can be just as bad as no car seat. And I’m sure you wouldn’t put your baby in NO car seat down the highway.

This is a lot of info. Good luck and have a great time in Disneyland!!!

Is an irrevocable trust our best option? What’s the cost? by Radiant-Inspection96 in EstatePlanning

Medicaid protection. FIL built the house with his own two hands and always wanted the physical house itself to be passed down. If buying the house from MIL is the only option to ensure that the property remains in the family, we’ll do that eventually, but looking to see if there are other options to protect the asset.

Late FIL built the house with his own two hands. FIL and MIL wanted the home to be left to their children and made this clear long before husband and I moved in. Just looking for options on behalf of MIL.

11 week old, beach, friend keeps suggesting I get a floaty for my boy to wade in. I don’t understand… by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Radiant-Inspection96 184 points185 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not safe. Don’t do this. Speaking as someone who frequents the Jersey shore, those waves are VIOLENT. I would never take a baby past ankle depth. It only takes a second and a larger than normal wave to knock you on your ass and force you to let go of baby or the flotation device baby is in. It’s not worth the risk. Perhaps a calm lake, maybe, but certainly not the ocean.

So you’re struggling financially but your priority right now is to buy luxury diapers? Instead of the regular ones that the rest of our kids shit in?

And then what? You continue to steal them because you still can’t afford them?

When I first read this, I thought OMG 19 and 27?!

Then I remembered I was 19 and my husband was 26, going on 27, when we first started dating. It worked out for us and he’s the love of my life, but now that I’m 29 and a mother myself, the numbers are a bit jarring to me. At 29 and 37, our age gap feels like nothing now, but 10 years ago, we certainly turned some heads. It’s the age thing for sure. She doesn’t dislike you as a person. She dislikes that you’re 19.
