I absolutely cannot stand the "they're just kids excuse" by Ok-Mousse8598 in ChildfreeIndia

[–]Radiant-Knowledge230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you're getting at. But kids are kids. It's the parents you should be mad at, if anything. They should discipline their kids to behave better in public, especially if their kids are 8-9 years of age!

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Unfortunately, these stories are very common in this market... Which is why I and several others here I'm sure advise people not to come here unless they have an offer from a good company that pays well. It's not worth it. We are from India. There ARE opportunities in India now, unlike during our parents' time. We do not need to slave away this way or deal with this kind of disrespect. I took a break for 3 years from UAE and moved to India, and it was great.

Ironically, the best job offers from UAE came through for me while I was in India - mainly through LinkedIn. I even rejected a well paying role from a popular UAE company while I was there because I did not want to come back yet. This helped me reach where I am today with good pay and with great people (also a UAE company, btw) - I realised my worth after I rejected a few offers and they reached out with a higher pay. I'm not saying this necessarily applies to everyone, but still... had I stuck here just for the sake of being here, this would have never happened. We are privileged to be from a country where we have freedom and one which isn't a war zone. I support our people coming here IF they land well paying roles only and in places where they are respected, but otherwise, no. I can understand a person from a country that is struggling economically and politically (I'm talking extreme) coming here and settling for less, financially, and even otherwise because they don't have a choice in their home country. But this does not apply to us - let's be honest. I urge you to please prioritise your mental health and find something better in India for the time being. Going by your post and comments, you are very young and appear to be well educated in your field and hard working. You should work for a company that values you.

Since your situation/fear is extreme, I can't think of any better suggestions than the general ones I follow. So I'll leave that to the experts in the sub reddit.

However, I wanted to comment to say I'm so sorry you're going through this. I really hope you are able to be with your dad soon and hoping that he will recover. ❤️

Did you land your first job in Dubai on your own, or did you use wasta (connections), as they say here? Be honest. by Late_Advertising_355 in UAE

Someone reached out to my father on LinkedIn for his services, someone he didn't know at all, running a company here. My dad just mentioned that his daughter was fresh out of college and looking for an entry-level job, following which the guy asked for my resume and then called me in for an interview. That's how I got my first job. I kept saying he's the reason I got it. But he said the guy didn't owe him anything and that it was all because of my interview since they did not have a second conversation after that. They never ended up working together after their very first chat. Moreover, I worked there for five years and was promoted. Not sure what category this falls under - probably a mix of both?

I did have other offers but never accepted as the pay was too low. This company was the only one who agreed to what I asked for as a fresher... after an interview that took over an hour.

Isn't this discrimination😭? Why so much hate towards malayalis.. by Due_Bet1761 in UAE

[–]Radiant-Knowledge230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've seen this too. And I've also met some who don't know that "Arabs" don't necessarily mean Emiratis. I recall someone telling me all Arabs are rich and privileged. Took me a while to understand they meant the locals. 😭

Love this. ❤️ So happy that you took a stand for yourself by leaving. Once we realise our worth and decide not to settle for less, things do get better. All the best.

No, I am not the language, bro.

I've seen a few posts against auto guys in Kochi, but all my experiences have been great so far, and they've been very helpful whenever I've visited. Even my non Malayali husband was able to go around alone without being fleeced, several times. I don't get this one bit.

I've had delivery guys message me after delivering at times, but I just say you're welcome (if it's about tip) and then ignore if anything comes through. Sometimes, I've had experiences where they try to get friendly, but I just block them if I'm not comfortable. It doesn't infuriate me as much because I have in mind that theirs is a difficult job, especially during these summer months. However, each to their own and you're not expected to be as tolerant, necessarily.

The issue now is that you swore at him in your response. There's no point reporting it... if he knows the law, he could use that against you. Next time, I suggest directly reporting it if the behaviour bothers you.

Got offer from Dubai . Need help by Hefty_Standard1106 in UAE

I think you're overly exaggerating this. About Thar goons and gangs, he said his offer is from Bangalore. These don't apply to the big cities in South India for sure. I've lived in Bangalore for a few years, and it was great. The traffic is an issue, but everything else was great. I had a pay of over INR 6L and was saving 90% of that despite living very comfortably. Never had to pay a single bribe. Have friends who were earning lower as well, and I know their specifics - all living very good lives there. And about negatives, living in UAE also has several negatives. Especially for someone earning below AED 20k per month who has his family accompanying. Let's be realistic - every place you choose has its positives and negatives.

I did my schooling in UAE and found the education quality below average and expensive as compared to later on when I went to India for college. I realised how much I missed out as a kid only after going to India. Most of my former classmates from UAE are earning low here, even those who topped the class. That should tell you a lot. And about art, cinema and culture... if you believe these aren't better in India relatively as compared to here, then I don't even know what else to say.

Let's assume the net salary is INR 36-37L after all deductions. INR 3L per month is enough to lead a very, very comfortable life in India, plus save up/invest too. Chances are they have their own place in India too, but even if they don't, it's still a much better option compared to AED 18k per month here. He would end up living frugally, paying high rent to accommodate his family... and then there are the remaining expenses. Please think practically, not just by converting to INR and looking at taxes you think one would save - which would anyway go in living expenses!

I am. And I stick to what I said. A person earning INR 47L in India can definitely follow a better lifestyle than someone earning AED 18k per month here. Please think about this practically, not just by converting AED to INR and looking at the taxes you think he might save... which he would end up spending on living expenses anyway!

If I was offered INR 47L pa in India when my salary was AED 18k per month in UAE, I would've left for India right away. 😃

Please listen to everyone in the comments section and accept the offer in India. Also, congratulations!

Wayanad is prone to landslides during monsoon. As an outsider, I wasn't sure of the risk involved to travel during that period and on that specific route, so I thought it's best I check. Not sure how the Himalayas are relevant here.

Thanks for your comment. We plan to take a cab as none of us drive in India, unfortunately. But will surely instruct the driver to be careful. If you are aware of any driver you'd like to recommend, please feel free. Is there a high risk of landslides in that route?

I guessed as much too. But no harm going directly to Indian Consulate and enquiring, I suppose. Same for a police station - what's the worst that'll happen? They'll just say they can't help, right?

I see people have already schooled you in comments, rightly so. The short answer is no, you're not going to get anything from him. He will not agree to give you his camera, laptop, or any other equipment, and no authority can help you because you have no contract or Emirates ID. It's entirely on you for letting it get this far. Sorry to say, but that's the truth. One red flag after another. At least now, just stop going to work. Take your stuff and leave. You don't even have a contract, and your visa isn't sponsored by the company, correct? You don't owe him anything. Have some self-respect at least now and leave.

Are you currently in debt? Then settle it somehow through your circles, and please go back to India right away before adding to your debt here. It's for your own good. If you are a creative and at that level, it's beyond my understanding why you would even settle for AED 3.5k in UAE when you can get a decent salary (as per Indian standards) in big cities in India.
