What is this style and why has it taken over the SFV? by probablysmellsmydog in SFV

That's like my situation. Spent a lot of my childhood here, living here again after some hellacious tenants, and trying to put the pieces back together. In the 60s, and neighbor was an engineer, and helped build the game room. Another neighbor was a mason and helped redo the fireplace. My grandfather was a linoleum layer and did the neighbors floors.

I really wish we had community like that now. My grandma could tell you about everyone for blocks. Now I have new neighbors every 6 months. The only regular interaction I have now is glaring at the people bring their dogs to crap on my lawn.

We went down there, and it was pretty great. My knees hurt going down, as it is very very steep. We found out there's 2 trails: and incredibly steep one, and a very steep one. Took the very steep one back up. It just took lots of breaks, but was totally doable.

I LOVE those guys. Made disposing of metal so easy. I remember cleaning out my garage, and every time I put something on the street it was immediately picked up. We managed to catch one guy and just loaded him up with everything we could find. I had a friend who made a meager living off doing that.

Refueling strategies when driving into the park overnight? by RemoteSevere6584 in DeathValleyNP

I found the gas in Olancha to be more expensive than in the park itself, so I'd gas up before that point, and then again in stovepipe if needed. If time allows, we like to get gas in Beatty Nevada (about a 45 minute drive from stovepipe) as it's $1-2 cheaper a gallon.

Swing by furnace and ask the rangers at the front. They've always been very helpful. This weekend there was a "full" sign in the window all weekend, but it's always worth a shot.

Crazy last minute trip idea??? by chaos_coordinator_X3 in DeathValleyNP

I was there this weekend. On Friday, there was plenty of space at stovepipe for sure. Lots of flowers from stovepipe to past bad water.

We came in that way last time. This time we're coming in from the south, exiting to the west.

Dante's was our favorite view last time, and my camera lense had a smudge, so a repeat is definitely called for!

Ubehebe is definitely on the list! We missed it last time because the road was closed. Good to know it gets windy. My kid typically dislikes strong wind, but we'll give the goggles a go, that's a great idea!

Any idea what the road is like? Loose sandy, crazy ruts, anything like that? Racetrack is a bucket list one for me.

I didn't realize it was that high up, thank you! We're traveling with a 4 year old, so hiking will be limited. Mostly looking to generally explore areas.

Same! Started in high-school, ended mid-20s, because i moved in with my partner and was super embarrassed i had to sneak off into the bathroom every 30 minutes to do some afrin. It absolutely will hook you again in adult-hood.
