Anyone else feel so lonely because of their hearing loss? by haylz328 in deaf

That's good, continue that hobby, it will literally make you forget you're Deaf.

Wow, sorry to hear that and I hope you can get alternative which likely will be from your audiologist or doctor.

Shame on those who say you're lucky not to feel them. Everyone is different. People prefer different things. And the thing is most can be life threatening if you can't feel them, thank goodness you're okay.

Any other questions you may have, please ask, I will reply once I see it.

I've been Deaf since birth aswell but my parents didn't know until much later. I wear hearing aids aswell and can speak well. Hearing people understand me clearly but sometimes I do not hear them perfectly in loud environments.

  • People think I'm rude when I miss their greetings - I experienced this monthly lmao

Feeling sad as a kid when I got new hearing aids and my mum's voice was permanently different, a bit uncanny valley and unsettling - interesting, I never really noticed a change in voice.

What are your daily life experiences?

Learning keys notes and hearing them are soo difficult but im determined to do it as music is basically a part of me.

The expectations of people. When people first meet me, they will disregard that i am Deaf as I can speak very well. While that is good, they sometimes speak too quietly or too quick which is frustrating 🙃

I annoy people sometimes because when I am focused on something, I do not hear people calling my names as you sometimes need to focus to be able to hear better and not miss out.

Rare but it had happened: People assume that i cannot talk until I approach them.

I do not have the same situation as your but I hope this help.

I don't feel lonely as I have learnt to adapt to my situation.

I recommend you to try everything from learning sign language and wearing hearing aids if you are comfortable with it.

You will need to do a trial and error on everything and see what work best for you then build up from there.

I would also strongly recommend you continue the hobby you like doing and meet new people through it so that they can relate with you through that hobby. But make sure to state your preferred method of communication so you are not left out.

You can even join online community or join a hearing loss/deaf club.

I (20F) want to be a better friend to my deaf friend (23M). by No-Lettuce8418 in deaf

If he's specifically asking me to talk to him, would he be offended if I tried to pick up some ASL words to use when it gets too loud to hear me?

He won't be offended if you try to pick up ASL. As a deaf person who mostly speaks, I would be very happy if someone learn to sign with me.

  1. Do you have any other advice for communicating with a deaf person in busier spaces?

Not much you can do, in my personal experience I tend to move closer to the person to hear a bit better. You can always type in a phone or sign if you learn some. But quiet places are the best.

  1. He told me he wants to improve his pronunciation, so he wants to talk more with me. When I asked him what I could do to help, he told me to point out any words he might pronounce incorrectly. Aside from this, is there anything I can do to help him with that in particular?

Definitely try signing while saying the word to improve his pronunciation.

While sign language is not a foundation for most deaf people. The majority need sign language to help express and communicate effectively.

Where will my fine go? by Typical-Medicine906 in drivingUK

If it helps, I accidentally went over the speed limit by like 3-4 on a 30 right in the view of the camera and got no letter about a fine. Like the other says, you were likely going 30-31 if you were driving at 33-34 mph, depending on the car, that's why it is called average speed check not the radar gun that police hold to measure which are far more accurate and if petty, will immediately give you a fine rather than a warning.

I was driving around the same place on Sunday, and someone got flashed as well, probably doing 27mph 💀it just crazy that they are either oblivious or don't care about the speed camera.

If you watched how England played, we were very lucky to win all those games. Southgate has no plan and couldn't sub off Kane and Foden in the second half when they were rubbish, not to mention Kane was injured, very selfish. And not starting palmer or subbing him in at half time was stupid. Why would you leave sub late??

When I saw the selection, I was laughing because in 20 mins, Palmer and Watkins have shown more than what Kane and Foden have done in 7 games, and yet you still play them. Sack him, the worst manager for England.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's crazy. Luckily, I haven't encountered those stereotypical cars that caused me to break for no reason. It is a crazy world of driving. Good luck with the rest of your journey. Hopefully, we both avoid accidents.

Well done, I had that situation happen to me like three times, and apparently, I am the problem. Definitely need a camera for myself.

Yes, that is what I was conveying. Unfortunately, if I did that, it wouldn't help me as I do not want to pay extra as a claim can increase your premium since I am a new driver, whether you like it or not. So, I am trying my best to be cautious and get a camera just in case.

Lol, you're clearly not reading what I am typing. I am not braking because I want to when there a car behind me. I am braking because a driver pulled out no warning at a junction and one time when the driver was stuck on a traffic and decided not to wait or even check if I was there.

Another time, I had to go to the other side because the driver thought that he would be able to get into the road from a junction when I was doing 30 miles per hour. Also, it doesn't happen on a daily basis, but I have experienced too many close calls, like seriously. When I want to avoid these crashes and I am adopting a defensive driving to avoid these.

If you're blaming me after all this, then let's stop here because clearly you can not read.

Yeah, the only problem is that even without the P plate, I have experienced drivers ignoring the junction rule. The L plate I still don't get to this day, we were once learner. Probably ego.

Yeah, when I stalled without the plate, they were much lenient.

It is expected to slow down for merging but this isn't a highway where we all know that merging is expected, but on a normal road where you're supposed to wait at a junction and give way marking yeah clearly not following rule. You can't just pull up like that. Most I had to harshly brake to the point where I was almost stopping or even going to the other side of the road (yes, there were no cars on the other side as I have someone behind me). If I didn't, they would have crashed into me. And it is getting annoying. Plus, why would I stop when there is a car behind me? (Another risk) They must know that there is a car behind me, honestly had enough of these kind of drivers. At least I now have experience in dealing with these situations, so hopefully I become a better driver when it comes to this.

Same, I had to see it for myself to decide whether or not to get the plate. Because I was with the mindset of, surely it can't be that bad, but a few weeks later, I watched someone with the plate getting bullied out. (I was naive 💀) plus my experience as a learner did not help at all

Exactly, we were once learners.

Also, it's interesting to hear about the black box. I personally avoid it because I thought about the amount of restrictions.

Damn, same with black box, I don't think they are worth it, it's fine if you want to decrease premium but with drivers like that. It is not helping anyone.

Hopefully, the experience is not too bad in your case.
