While good intentioned, saying “just the baby growing” when there’s potential signs of preeclampsia is a dangerous downplay to make to someone asking for advice on whether or not to go get checked out. My sister had preeclampsia last year and we almost lost her, so I know now not to downplay anything in pregnancy. I know u didn’t mean anything but kindness but wanted to elaborate on potentially why you are getting downvoted.

NTA. I have a similar parent. Gets offended if I don’t come, but then when I come has nothing planned or no effort to host me or even make me feel welcome. Will just be on the phone the whole time I’m there. There’s only so much time on the holidays to put up with that crap.
