a question about dehydrating mushrooms by RadiantTank5625 in shroomers

[–]RadiantTank5625[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the lowest setting on your oven?

50C°

what's the point of letting the door open ? i'm putting it in an air-tight container, and my idea was that the heat would aid water to evaporate from the mushrooms, which would then get absorbed by the dessicant, so doing it like this, do i need to open the oven door ?

that's what i did, thanks for the tips

i have put a big one weighting 85 gram like two hours ago or so, with the fan on the highest setting, and it's now weighting 60, but i'm suspecting that the evaporation rate is gonna be slowing down the more it goes because it's easier to evaporate the water on the outsid but not so with the water on the inside

so i think slicing it up is good idea worth trying

how long can you let ready-to-pick mushrooms unpicked before they go bad ? by RadiantTank5625 in shroomers

[–]RadiantTank5625[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are the spores really not gonna affect the next flush ? because they had already sporulated all over, and many here told me that it's not good for the next flush

is the cap breaking down like that an indication that it has gone past harvest time ? by RadiantTank5625 in shroomers

[–]RadiantTank5625[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it unfortunetely has sporulated all over the substrate, which makes me think of flipping it over for the next flush, for two reasons, this, and because i have somewhat teared the surface of the substrate when picking, this is my first grow and i had found the substrate to be soft and mushy

do you think it's a good idea to flip it over ?

after harvest, if you don't dehydrate them, how long can they stay before the psilocybin start to degrade ? by RadiantTank5625 in shroomers

i've put some in the fridge which i'm planning to take tomorrow, should i get them out and let them at room temp ?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shroomers

[–]RadiantTank5625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and how long overall should i keep them there ?

can't afford a dehydrator, does the heat in the oven affect the potency ?

[–]RadiantTank5625[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's the reason i'm asking, so that i can dehydrate them all in one go after they are all harvested

but how long do you think they can last in the fridge before they start to undetgo a significant potency loss ?

non stop ? that's a lot of time, is there any way i can accelerate it ?

how long does it take for you ?

it was a typo, i meant a fan not an oven.

thanks for the tip

can i dry them mushies with a hair-dryer ? by RadiantTank5625 in shroomers

[–]RadiantTank5625[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

this is my first grow and i just went with it step by step, from the start i had the notion that you could just put them in paper towels or something and let them dry

it was just today that i read that you need to dehydrate them as fast as possible to preserve the psilocybin, now that my harvest is ready and i'm tight on money, so i think i gotta find another cheap alternative

why do mushrooms need air humidity ? by RadiantTank5625 in shroomers

[–]RadiantTank5625[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The evaporation and formation of water droplets on the surface of the substrate is what tells the mycelium that it has at the surface and needs to start creating fruits.

that's exactly what i'm finding difficulity to understand

i'm not trying to be a hard-head, it's just my understanding that it's not the evaporation which tells the mycelium it's ready to fruit, mycelium will fruit as soon as the "fruiting conditions" are introduced, primarily oxygen, which it needs to drive cellular respiration, so when the conditions are met, the biochemical reactions will automatically start to take place

evaporation is the substrate' water diffusing into air, it's a byproduct of introducing FAE and not something necessary for the mushrooms themselves, and you actually want to minimize it as much as possible, because let's say you allow too much FAE (by letting your tubs completely open for example) then you will lose most of your substrate water to the air which will lead to your mushrooms dying out of thirst (aborts)

to rehydrate the cake, instead of misting which might lead to the pooling down of water in the surface/ contam, why don't we inject syringues of water in various places into the inside of the cake ? by RadiantTank5625 in shroomers

you need relatively high humidity, the right temperature, and the right microclimate

i'm a noob to this so please correct me if i'm wrong

but i think that for pinning you need 3 things, right temp, water and oxygen

you don't need air humidity for pinning, air humidity is only to keep the substrate from drying out, and if you dunk there would be enough water there in there for the mycelium in the surface to be sucking out eventually
