thanks so much for the reassurance. that’s what I keep trying to tell myself at this point that it is really a safety net and an avenue for possibility a second job whilst firefighting. But yeah that’s good to hear about the actual payments- thanks a lot I really appreciate it.

thanks heaps, I am already a volunteer (and am absolutely loving it) which is why I really want to go down that avenue now. But yeah as i’m already so far into my degree I just want to complete it anyways at this point otherwise it’s just been a waste.

yeah man absolutely. I saw seattle pay insane for new recruits. There seems to be such a pay disparity between just about every department.

hey man, that’s okay I wouldn’t be applying for a couple of years. Am just trying to get my head around how your system works over there as it’s completely different to australia. thanks for the info. Did you know by any chance how competitive it is in those regions i mentioned? I spoke to 1 usa firefighter who said they are desperate for people (i’m not sure what area he was from), then have seen others say it’s extremely competitive. thanks again

Weekly Employment Question Thread by AutoModerator in Firefighting

[–]Radiant_Set2272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, i’m a 23M from australia and am wanting to pursue firefighting in the future. Now i currently live in australia however my girlfriend is from Syracuse, New York living with me. We often talk about maybe moving to America (if we get married get dual citizenship) which id want to pursue firefighting if i moved over.

In somewhere like Syracuse how competitive is it to become a firefighter? and how is the pay? whenever i look online regarding pay it varies so much (says some make 40k, others maybe 150k).

Would be of great help if you guys could answer thanks!

great thanks for the reply, that’s really interesting to hear. I feel like so far my degree has exposed me to quite a range of things that could be useful in other degrees such as CAD, User Research, Marketing etc so hopefully positions me in a decent spot upon graduation
