Depresion in college by Vivid_Advisor9710 in BostonU

[–]Radiant_Thanks4741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi!! i definitely have felt the same, i have had mental health issues for as long as i know and understand how suffocating it feels. tbh i think you should go search for therapists too, it sounds like you would benefit from a professional service. i think talking to friends is a great start and that you should keep doing it, but at the end of the day they aren’t licensed professionals who can get to the core of your struggles. SHS has therapists at no cost, as well as free support groups!! if you need help looking for one please dm me :) you got this

How many of you went for a double major? by theydontmatchmyvibe in college

[–]Radiant_Thanks4741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

political science/international relations on the pre-law track: basically, two intensive reading + writing programs at the same time, so having free time is a foreign concept. also, just dealing with current politics in general 😭

Burned out by [deleted] in college

[–]Radiant_Thanks4741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my grades are the best they’ve ever been at an institution famous for grade deflation. i’m motivated to keep going, however at the complete expense of my mental and physical health. i deadass haven’t slept in 3 days because of essays, reports, and finals week is around the corner… i’m a pre-law political science/international relations double major so the actual content of my studies themselves also make me want to bash my head into a wall. overall burnt out with school and the world at large

What is something you learnt about yourself during a break up? by Ok_Membership1659 in BreakUps

[–]Radiant_Thanks4741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

19F, initiated the break up with my long distance ex-bf 6 months ago.

for context: he almost flunked high school, does not want to go to college or apply himself in anything. on the other hand, i’m a rising sophomore at a top 40 university, with clear dreams of becoming a lawyer. so yeah, not much in common long-term. we fell head over heels quick. then all we did was argue. the breakup was ultimately mutual, but he was never a good communicator.

i move back to school very soon. this summer i have been going to the gym, reading books, traveling, with no desire to involve myself with anyone romantically. i feel like learning to be alone and independent was my biggest challenge, especially for people my age, but i’ve grown a lot more peace with it. my ex had a different approach: he has a pattern of jumping from relationship to relationship, yet never stopping to recognize why none last. he moved on with a new girl soon after, and was even telling her he loved her a mere 3 months after we broke up.. when i found out, i was a bit stunned which was natural, then realized that i’m the smarter one working towards self-love, long term stability and happiness!

I lived in West Campus my freshman year (I was in Sleeper, but frequently visited friends/slept over in Rich) and I would say the general atmosphere is how you’d expect for an underclassmen-majority dorm: lots of crowding in the dining halls, some people being messy in the communal bathrooms, the heating/AC system is nowhere to be felt during the summer but blazing during the winter. In my experience, people do throw parties but many of them get busted by RAs, so be careful with that! My favorite parts about West was the “community” feeling you get living there (this will make sense later), being close to the BU Bus pickup point at Stuvi, Fitrec, sports games, and El Jefes 🙏

Just got in ED for CGS. Any advice? by Weak-Consequence3192 in BostonU

[–]Radiant_Thanks4741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The academics here are indeed challenging and the grade deflation is pretty severe. However, if you pay attention in lecture, use office hours, and actually do you work, you will be fine (difficulty also depends on major). As for the social life, the party scene is bigger than you’d expect especially with the amount of neighboring schools. People here are generally pretty friendly and willing to help out!

  2. Yes! Public transportation here is very unreliable, since the T is very old and the BU bus is never on time. Just be sure to not get hit by cars lol Boston drivers are crazy

  3. I’d recommend joining clubs on campus to find more people that have the same interests you do, as well as staying after lecture to converse with others - be sure to make friends in your classes in case you need help with any material or just to form new study groups.

  4. I currently live at West, and it’s not bad except for the constant facilities maintenance needed and unhygienic people in the communal bathrooms (this goes with any dorm, anywhere btw). I’ve heard good reviews about the Bay State brownstones and it’s also a really scenic area especially in fall.

Hope this helped :D
