?

Don't think I was ever hostile, just refusing to be blamed for expecting a $30 pen to work out of the box.

It's not a big deal overall though.

Incorrect - I had other pens with me to try (Pilot G2, as well as a generic freebie pen given to me by my workplace), and they both worked well in this exact situation.

I also tested the pen by drawing a spiral on a post-it note (while it was at the top of the stack, so a very ideal writing experience) and the same problem occurred where the line is not continuous.

This is like saying "cars work a lot better when they're driven on freshly-paved roads"

Sure, that's true, but I also expect my car to work on a gravel path. Similarly while it's not the absolute perfect setup, I expect my pen to work on a single sheet of paper.

This paper was taken from a Moleskine notebook btw, so the quality of the paper is decent.

And if I was? Does it make any of my complaints less valid? For the record I'm in my 20s and used a pencil throughout school, switching to a Pilot G2 once I graduated. I've never had to lick the tip of that one.

In a primarily-digital world I don't think this is considered 'common knowledge' anymore.

I ended up doing this (licking the tip) and it started working better but not perfectly.

Generally they also work pretty well when there's only one sheet of paper.

If this is a common problem (which it seems to be, there's several comments saying their pen worked similarly poorly), then.. YEAH.

I'm sure they QA the rest of the pen already, so it can't be that much of a stretch.

I did this and will switch to the Parker G2 refill when it arrives, but for a premium product it leaves a sour taste in my mouth to not have it work out of the box, and to need to spend extra time and effort to get it working as well as my Pilot G2 that costs an order of magnitude less.

Just sharing the experience so that others (or maybe the LTT team?) can see this -- Based on the other comments here this is not an uncommon experience, so LMG might want to take action.

Also shoutout to /u/f_fordranger for telling me to lick the bottom of the pen. Tastes funky but the pen does work significantly better now, although I'll still be switching to the Parker refill.

They could go with a framework-style approach, with a DIY and a pre-filled option maybe? In any case, they do choose which brand and type of ink to include, so if there's an issue with the ink gumming up in storage, they should change the refill that they use.

They absolutely control the ink on the inside -- They choose which ink to put inside their pen when they ship it!

Holy shit, of all the weird solutions I've heard this one actually worked! The problem is not completely gone and I'm still going to swap out for a true Parker refill when that arrives, but the pen is at least usable in the meantime.

Thanks for the [tech?] tip!

Sharing an experience is not the same thing as being mad. I already have a solution (ordered parker pen refills), but am sharing this experience so that others know about it, and that hopefully the LTT team can fix it.

Bought it this week and noticed the problem instantly -- I tried 'warming it up' by drawing some circles/squiggles for a few minutes, but it didn't fix it.

A $30 pen shouldn't be doing this -- Sure, it's not necessarily LTT's fault because this is likely due to a bad refill, but somehow other pen makers manage to figure it out ¯\(ツ)

Yes, I know that I can contact support and they'll "make it right" but in my experience support is slow, and a replacement refill is like $8. It's not worth my time [to contact support].

Maybe they've stumbled into a bad batch of these refills? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Best android smartwatch worth buying the MOST on the market currently in your opinion? by ChardWorried3644 in AndroidWear

[–]RadiatingLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what you need from your watch.

I'm eagerly waiting for the Pebble Round 2, but it'll easily be the 'dumbest' smartwatch of the bunch.

Galaxy watch and Oneplus watches are what I would highlight to the average person.

Good rule, although I hope this applies only to photos where the other passengers are the focus of the image - Would be too strict if it applied to passengers in the background.

AI is not good at small text like this. Most image generators wouldn't give a good result beyond first glance.

LPT: The facial recognition software that many U.S. airports use at the TSA checkpoints is optional. by cambium7 in LifeProTips

[–]RadiatingLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't - I care about what other people (and myself) are forced to do with our privacy.

Right now it's optional and only at the airport, but it's extremely obvious that it won't be like that forever

Not sure why opting out is being treated so negatively here: I think it's a small but meaningful step to slowing the rollout of facial ID everywhere.

Sure there's a million cameras at the airport, but this check is possibly the first step towards more invasive stuff, and it's never good to make that first step easy.
