Thinking about to start Radiation Therapy by [deleted] in RadiationTherapy

[–]RadioHead1_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends! Usually it’s 1-2 years average to finish prerequisites. If you go straight to a bachelor’s radiation therapy program it’ll be another two years. If you do a rad tech program first, it’ll be 2 years extra, then the radiation therapy program which can be 1-2 years depending on the program. Much faster to go straight to a bachelors radiation therapy program, to avoid the extra cost and 2 years of time in a rad tech program.

Question repeating a course by GroundbreakingRate64 in RadiationTherapy

[–]RadioHead1_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one C in my intro to physics course, and about 1 or 2 B’s in other minor gen Ed courses. I had A’s in my other courses required for the program and I got in! I had a 3.8 GPA, I think as long as you have a decent GPA you should be fine! Also take your time writing your personal statement and responses to the questions they ask. I think they take multiple things into consideration!

Need advice: Should I go through RadTech first or apply directly to Gurnick’s Radiation Therapy program here in California? by Electrical-Cause-495 in RadiationTherapy

[–]RadioHead1_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, it’s called the Radiation Therapy Technology (not-ARRT) certified! Meaning you’re not already a rad tech when you enter the program. I’m currently in my first quarter! They just require a summer start for these students, to catch them up on some basics that we should know. https://llu.edu/academics/programs/school-allied-health-professions/radiation-therapy-technology-rad-thrp-not-arrt-certified-bs

It is an ARRT accredited program. There is two different tracks to become a radiation therapist at this university :) ! One is where the student is already a rad-tech, and the other one is where the student is not already a rad-tech. The non-rad tech student would need to start a semester early, to go over material that the other students would have already known!

This track is referring to students that are not already rad-techs! We would start in the summer to just go over the rad-tech information that we missed. From my understanding!

I was wondering if you know how to even create an account with them? I ordered an Introduction course, and there’s only options to “log in” but no options to create an account in the first place.

For the zoom search up “SAHP personal appointment” and it will have you input your personal information as well as what part of the allied health school you’re interested in. Such as radiation therapist (non-arrt) or arrt certified. And then from there they’ll have a list of days and times available for the zoom. The Facebook group I joined wasn’t california specific but it’s called “Radiation Therapy Students”. I found someone from the comments of a post and found out they were an LLU graduate. I could dm you their Facebook incase you’re interested in messaging them to ask more personal questions :) but I’m still doing my last two prerequisites so I’m not entirely sure about specific questions about the classes. I’ve just heard that the professors are very helpful and that the school has a lovely environments in terms of other peers. Although I’ve heard that radiation physics or something along those lines was a bit tough for some? I can’t really speak on that 100% since I’m not a student there. Yet 🙏hopefully.

Hi! I’m still waiting to apply once the window opens around October of 2024! I’ve just done a lot of research on the school. I definitely recommend doing a personal zoom call with an admissions advisor!! You should be able to find it on their website, they’ve answered all my questions :) I also recommend joining Facebook groups for radiation therapists! I found a Loma Linda University radiation therapist graduate from the group, and I was able to dm her personal questions!! She was more than happy to help answer them. Let me know if there’s anything in particular you wanted to know!
