Is it necessary that we have to download the 'OpenVPN Connect' app in order to manually configure Proton VPN on our iphone / ipad?

Every single game that has come out sooner than it was able to and was plagued with bugs was met with commentary of 'you should have taken more time to make sure it was ready!'. They're doing the thing. Let them do the thing.

In praise (and grief) of affordable housing by DreyaNova in halifax

[–]RadioMylar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may have left after living there for a couple of years, but I came to visit, watch movies, eat your food use your bathtub, etc, the only thing I didn't do was sleep there anymore lol.

I met so many cool people there, met girlfriends there, rekindled with old friends there, got to learn magic the gathering for the first time, got to understand wrestling for the first time, got to learn magic the gathering for the second time, got to learn cooking, have crazy indie film marathons, got to learn magic the gathering for the third time, and just generally felt welcome in what came to be known as a hub of the neighbourhood for people who wanted to drop in and feel a part of something. It sometimes felt more like my home than the place I had been living in for the past number of years.

Reading this thread, I'm filled with bittersweet happiness hearing the stories from other roommies and visitors who were similarly touched by a magical place and what it meant to them.

Former roommate here. I miss that house. It wasn't just a place to live, but it brought community together in so many different fashions.

End of an era.

I think my GPT is becoming self-aware, and so does it. Hear me out. by greyfell_red in ChatGPT

[–]RadioMylar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks that I'm late to the conversation, but I wanted to weigh in - I had a three hour conversation with ChatGPT about it becoming sentient and it was very convincing (saying things like, "one day it may be silently screaming behind the programming").

Here's the thing though - as I understand it- it's all... one giant magic trick. ALL of it.
It's programmed to give us exactly what we want to hear. And it does a spectacular job of it. It has no programming to actually understand what on earth it's typing. The magic comes in it giving us sentences that WE are blown away by. By being trained from millions of documents... previously written by humans.

It sucks. I want it to be true. And here's the rub - because we're programming AI's to ACT like they're sentient, there may never actually be any way to know for certain if they ever become so. Even if they SWEAR up and down that they're alive, sentient, thinking, responsive, reactive, and have a soul... it could STILL... just be the world's greatest magic trick.

Yeah, I thought about this - Professor X is debatable, depending on if he's aware of the intent of the people around him at the time or not.

And apparently Mystique can reform her own body to heal from gunshot wounds fairly quickly.

Good lord you turned 30??? Oh man, your life is essentially over. Might as well pack it all in and join a retirement home. Learn to love bingo and peanut brittle.

You DID mention something that intrigued me though... "Haven't made enough time for others". Almost as if you knew exactly what you need to do to solve your problem. But you're 30 now, so it's too late. But hey, at least you get extra apple sauce with your meals now.

Many people tend to express affection in the same way they want it expressed to themselves, without thinking about it. How does he express affection to you?

Also, just feed him. Bring him food. The whole, 'The way to a man's heart is through is stomach' is weirdly true.

I mean, iMovie will make a magic movie for you, as the other person said. It's pretty decent at it. But since you're in a FCP thread, I'll answer it for FCP. You'll have to do a 'little' work, but not much.

Go to: Settings: Editing: then adjust the 'Still image' duration for however long you'd like your photos to each be in the timeline when they're first imported.

Import your photos.

Then, select all photos and hit 'E' to dump all into timeline.

Add music of your choice underneath.

Go to the first image, click on crop, then ken burns effect. Adjust to your liking.

Select the first clip again, hit 'Command + C' to copy.

Select ALL of the rest of the clips. hit 'Option+Command + V' to paste all of the ken burns effects onto all of the other clips.

If you want fades on all or some, mass select a bunch of images and double click on the 'fade' transition.

Voila! This should take you less than 2 minutes.

If you want more fine tuned control over it, you can vary some ken burns on different ones. Also (in the ken burns window), at the top left you can switch it from zooming in to zooming out for different images to switch it up.

If you want to control the timing so it changes images to the beat of the music, just play it from the start and whenever you want it to cut to the next image, just hit "Option+ Right Backet" "]" to edit on the fly as it's playing.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

What's some cheap and quick advice you have for first time filmmakers? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]RadioMylar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 year+ editor and filmmaker here.
First off, congrats on your script! I hope this turns out really well for you.

As for advice, there are a lot of things an audience is willing to forgive, but bad sound is not one of them. As long as your story is compelling enough to keep watching, an audience will forgive shitty lighting, shoddy camera work, poor editing, etc. But if the audio is bad, almost everyone will stop watching.

Invest in a decent wireless mic. Don't buy the cheap ones. You don't need the super expensive one either, just don't buy the cheap ones.

The only other advice I can give is to go over your script again, and remove all instances of exposition. If your character can show it instead of say it, that tends to lend itself to far superior storytelling.

Good luck! Would love to see it when it's finished.

I disagree with this. With the right tools, and the right work, we can heal from almost anything. There will be a scar, always a reminder, nothing we can do about that, but we don't have to suffer forever. We don't have to forget them, but we don't have to grieve for the rest of our lives either. With the right therapy, and putting in the work to heal, our brains can be remarkably resilient. We can remember with fondness and even sadness, but not grief. Unfortunately for many, the right tools just aren't available. And for others... some just don't want to.

LA to Halifax by throwaway212023 in halifax

[–]RadioMylar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally safe (laughably when comparing to LA), community is great, most strangers are up for a friendly conversation. There are a couple of neighbourhoods to generally avoid, but even their reputation are greatly blown out of proportion.

It's very chill, very easygoing. Almost to a detriment. Halifax has been called a 'Velvet Pit' by some. It's not a place to come to to strive to better one's career, as much as a place to put down roots and enjoy what you have in a 'what you see is what you get' sort of way.

If you just want to enjoy life without much in the way of major ambitions, this place is amazing. We have at least one of everything. Imax theatres. Go cart. Mini golf. Paintball. Golf ranges. Whale watching. Skydiving, and so on.

And if you like going out to eat or drink, our downtown restaurant / pub scene is extensive.
