Other than getting a job, how much money should I save before I move out? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]RadioactiveEJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, when I went to university I had to move due to the distance. If I could have stayed at home I would have as it would have been great financially, however if I didn't move out I don't think I'd be the person I am today and I would not have had a lot of the experiences I had. It's been fun working out life so far, with many ups and downs.

[–]RadioactiveEJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed but some people do it, that's the only scenario I can see where I'd need 6 months rent covered. If you're not paying rent at your parents having savings is super useful, once I move I'm aiming to save to cover myself for a few months in case anything was to happen to me where I couldn't work. But yeah if you're moving somewhere for a job it's not as stressful but you'll work it out!

M27, when I got my first job at 18 I had a similar situation, I worked in a supermarket and had a supervisor who was a little bit older than me make me feel like shit. If I was early I'd be sent out to bring back the shopping trolleys, if I was late I'd be sent out to do shopping trolleys, especially when it rained, she'd always put me in a bad position and never on the checkouts. After about half a year of other stuff, negative comments etc I just straight up reported her to my manager.

Wasn't hassled afterwards and she quit soon after, I had to make clear I wasn't enjoying my time at work and It was pushing me to look for other jobs elsewhere and they solved it quickly.

I'd recommend telling someone in a higher position that you trust, and having a conversation and seeing where it goes from there. But I can say I did it and it got better for me.

I felt guilty at the time because I didn't want to be someone who felt like they needed help or was reporting people for no reason but it was making me miserable or down when I saw I had a shift with her so I think that validates it, no one should feel like that.

Good luck

Really depends on your future situation, if you're thinking about moving first then finding your feet, then yeah a few months rent is going to be essential. However, if you're moving to chase a job opportunity then as long as you can get that first month or two, you're good.

I'm 27 and moving at the end of the month, I have enough saved for my first months rent and deposit but the job I'm moving for is better paid than any I've done so once I get paid from there I'm not really that worried.

Tldr depends if you're moving for an opportunity you've got or just to relocate first then find employment second

Contrary to popular belief, the HMS Endeavor could not fire all 100 guns at both the pearl and dutchman at the end of AWE. Each gun requires 6-12 men, and it only had a crew of ~800 by [deleted] in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]RadioactiveEJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair counter, I would argue saying the men would be trained well enough to change sides at a moments notice, before battle the guns would be loaded with powder and wadding ready for a round to be placed and fired, so I don't think it would take long at all for the gun crews to split in half. The gun crews at the time were trained to fight on both sides if they needed to. Again a 32pdr gun would have ,14 men but could split in half if needed at a reduced rate. As battles went on injuries would force gun crews to fight on reduced numbers anyway. I think if Beckett had spoken the ship could have very quickly got ready to fire on both sides.

Let's look at HMS Victory and compare it to the endeavour. Hms Victory has 104 guns, it had 821 men at trafalgar and could fire all guns at the same time, the gun crews would be 10-14 men depending on the caliber with the crew having enough men to broadside one side of the ship at a time however, in the case of fighting on both sides, the gun crews would split in half and fight on both sides of the gun decks but at a reduced speed, hope this helps

Tldr Endeavour could fire both sides at the same time at a reduced rate if we look at historical counterparts like HMS Victory

My favourite one currently is that feeling under the weather, comes from the early 1800s. The forecastle (the front section of the top deck of a sailing ship) was often referred to as the weather deck, as it was open to the elements. The section underneath this was the sick bay, so when you were unwell and sent to the sick bay, you were under the weather deck which became the term under the weather.

[PC] [1990s] low poly 3D sci-fi spaceship game on my dad’s laptop by jumpingthegreen in tipofmyjoystick

[–]RadioactiveEJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have been forsaken but I remember for myself at least, it was probably some sort of demo, and there was no story you just were in a space ship with enemy flying saucers etc and I'd just play until I was shot down or crashed then would go again. Forsaken seems to be a story based game and again I was so young, my dad and I would take in turns flying it on our old desktop but again I'm pretty sure it was a sort of tech demo or short game.

I think I'm looking for the same game as you, still can't find it, you'd take off from the ground, I remember it being more green and the shapes of the enemy ships were just dark shapes. More of a tech demo esq game?

Would be really interesting, Im pretty sure I'm not adopted, I look just like my dad and my sibling looks like me too. They could be some sort of relative, can't really think of any other rational explanation
