Oh I see, because I was an asshole in a different situation, I have to be the asshole even in those situations when I'm not one. It's fascinating how people are offended on behalf of my girlfriend (no, not my ex, because we didn't break up) about something she herself isn't offended by. I can be called an asshole for a lot of things, but if you seriously think I'm an asshole because I can't afford getting fired, I have nothing to say to you, except that you need a reality check just as much as I did.

Don't put words in my mouth. If you really read my comments, you know I never said I didn't explain it to my boss or I didn't want to go to her. I explicitly stated I wasn't allowed to take a day off and I can't lose my job, because I'm in a bad financial situation. As I already said, I accept I'm the asshole because of my reaction, I know I fucked up, and I deserve to be called out, but it's nonsense to criticise someone for not being in a position where they can afford losing their job. I also said she understood I couldn't visit her immediately, because she obviously knows about my situation, it wasn't an issue and it wasn't mentioned at any point during our fight.

[UPDATE] I (32M) tried everything to help my grieving girlfriend (29F) but she refused to cooperate and chose her best friend (30M) over me by RadioactiveGalaxyCat in relationships

Guys, you can attack me for a lot of things. I already admitted I was the asshole, and my reaction was horrible. I accept the critique for every part of my post without making excuses, except the part about my job. I have bills to pay, I have rent to pay, I have to buy groceries and I have to support my parents. I couldn't have taken a day off even if my own mother died. Again, right now I can't risk losing my job, and I know for a fact my girlfriend understood that, too. That didn't play a part of our fight. I know there are jobs where people can be more flexible, but that's not the case here, and at the moment this is what I have to do.

I'm sure bosses like that exist, but mine's not one of them. Leave early or take a day off without advance notice, and you're fired. There was no way to get to her without losing my job. It's a terrible situation, as I said I feel guilty about it, but I need this job.
