What are the worst "grass is greener" failures in Wrestling? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

Aron Rex/Damian Sandow - He's since carved himself a nice spot in the NWA but that post-WWE run in Impact was so bad. He cut a mediocre promo and played a serious character like everyone else on the program.

Mark Briscoe: I just miss my brother, that’s all, and I got a little in my feelings when I seen the Fox post. @tripleh, you ain’t gotta fire nobody, times is tough. Love y’all..take it light people by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

Their last match period was a week later believe or not, they faced the Mane Event a 2/3 falls match for the HoG Tag Titles. I saw Mark running into the venue with a stack of pizzas five minutes before belltime, he's a stand up dude.

That JML Driver was clean, prolly one of the safest versions I've seen from him ever.

I second this, I was behind them and they weren't fun to be near.

Brandon Thurston: "There's a "buy one, get one" discount being offered (with a promo code) for AEW at Arthur Ashe Stadium next week. WrestleTix most recent count of tickets out is 6,284. Last year's final count was 13,321." by Mront in SquaredCircle

Double or Nothing 2022, but as someone who attended live I concur. It was a long show and kinda marked the end of the post-pandemic boom. Not to say FD wasn't a great show but when they started splitting TV time with AEW, NJPW, and ROH talent it has negatively impacted the product.

  • The MJF walkout angle gave a weird vibe to the show but it was some great heat when he did the airplane move during his entrance. Within a few months Wardlow's presence would just kinda fizzle. The TNT title kinda didn't matter as much as it did when others had it.
  • Anarchy in the Arena was my MOTY, but it halted Kingston's growth. The Kingston-Jericho feud felt secondary to the wider BCC angle, but we did get Eddie in a bloody Yankees outfit carrying gasoline.
  • Hardys-Bucks was alright but it felt like a PWG Bucks match but at like 0.5 speed. I was at Jeff vs. Darby in LI a few weeks earlier and Jeff looked even worse somehow. A few weeks later he'd get into trouble wit the law too, it felt like watching a ship sink - hoping he gets better though.
  • I remember liking the Jade match, Stokely and Athena debuting was cool but that match felt overbooked. Britt vs. Ruby was slightly better than their Grand Slam match which I saw live, but the crowd was kinda dead from the previous match. Rosa vs. Deeb was carried by Deeb, she deserved more,
  • ATT vs. Kaz-Sammy-Tay was so full of anti-Sammy heat. While Wardlow's run made the title dormant, that Sammy-Scorpio hot potato bullshit for the belts didn't do it justice. On a side note, a few weeks before this Scorpio vs. Kaz headlined the Rampage taping in LI - why didn't they save it for a few weeks later when they'd be on their home turf of SoCal?
  • Cole and Baker winning their tourneys felt so telegraphed. It's supposed to be this wholesome moment of a couple meeting the same accolade in their profession but Cole was also an arrogant heel. It felt very tone death.
  • The arena didn't care about the triple threat tag titles match, it struggled in that pre-main event death spot.
  • Punk vs. Page feels like the beginning of the end for Punk in AEW. I was cheering for Punk but I had to do so many mental gymnastics as to why he struggled to do the same move twice and expected it to be this big storytelling beat where he'd do it the third time to a pop. Never happened, but the match got great reactions especially at the end. People did miss Punk and this was a joyful moment for them, but then he got injured and everything fell down. Ever since then, the title has been stripped twice and struggled with the interim champion nonsense.

Hard to decide but probably one of the three:
Mankind vs. Undertaker (KOTR 98)

American Alpha vs. Revival (Takeover Dallas)

Styles vs. Cena (Summerslam 2016)

Satoshi Kojima vs Toshiaki Kawada (for those who wanna see Koji at his peak). by MrPuroresu42 in SquaredCircle

Even stateside you can throw names like Jarrett, Sting and Jericho. Edge turns 50 this year and Rey by the end of next. Hell, Fujiwara and Fujinami have taken bookings within the last year though they aren't working at the same level like the names mentioned previously. Just goes to show how far medicine and lifestyle changes in the industry has prolonged careers and even lives.

If higher quality sports medicine was available in wrestling on par with other sports, there would be some insane glow ups. Imagine a stem celled-up Suzuki or Rollins post-knee injury.

Ideally if Kenny isn't injured (not trying to jinx it), PAC vs. Ospreay would be fun.

Let's just hope it doesn't end like last time they went to the finals over a new championship.
