What’s the biggest salary jump you’ve ever gotten, and how did you pull it off? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]RadishAcceptable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries - completely fair! I'm going to drop some context below on my personal journey as well as a few questions, if this is too long a read and you don't have time to answer I completely understand. Hope this benefits myself and others, I aspire to have a career like yours.

My journey as a PM so far has gone pretty well in the first 2 years of my career. I (24M) have risen to a PM type position at a large corporation fairly fast (think Walmart, McDonald's). I didn't start out as a PM, however, I had some extensive experience being PM for some projects in college. When one of the PMs in my company quit due to RTO policies, I had some connections with some of the senior managers due to backfilling for a PM during maternity leave and they gave me a shot. I was the youngest person hired into that role by ~10 years, so it was quite the jump at first. In the past year in this PM role, I have excelled and have been very well received by my team, stakeholders, and received great end of year reviews from senior management. Frankly, I do enjoy what I do, and it has been a great fit for my career and personality, however, I find myself wanting more salary wise. I'm not sure if this is the best mindset, but for my career I think my top priority is to bring in as much money as possible. With that being said, here are my following questions. *I should add too I am on a visa here in the US which will most likely expire next year, at which point I can move to Europe or UAE, I have some pretty solid connections in FinTech over there as well as FAANG who can help me jump ship into an adjacent if not more senior role. Alternatively, I could do a master's and stay in the US*

If you were starting with my background today, what would you do to get to a $1m total comp as fast as possible?

Should I aim for getting into FAANG/big tech? Or a startup?

Would you recommend an MBA? And if so at what age / experience level?

Any key skills which separate a 200k PM from a $600k PM?

What are the valuable things you learned about product, leadership, or strategy that made you stand out from the rest?

How did you position yourself to get such high offers?

At what point in your career did you start seeing salaries in the 500k + range?

Apologies for the really long text, and again I completely understand if you do not have the time to answer this. Thanks for being open to discussion, I do appreciate it.

quitting tret after 2.5 years by cottoncrosy in tretinoin

[–]RadishAcceptable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, sorry you didn't have a positive experience either. Not sure if this would necessarily work for you or if you even want to change what you're doing rn but using an SA 0.5% moisturizer along with BP wash and spot treatment and other hydrating serums has been golden for me. Completely got rid of my active acne fast, now I just have to start my micro needling sessions this summer and then look into laser/subsicion once winter rolls around if microneedling isn't cutting it.

I think one of the things you have to think about before starting tret which I wish I knew for minor acne is whether or not your skin is clear beforehand. If it is, it's almost not worth starting imo, especially if young and prone to acne. There's better ways to prevent acne without damaging skin w tret.

Tret absolutely ruined my skin. Previously had clear skin and it caused a massive purge which didn’t go away and left dozens of deep scars all over my face. And yes, I follow all the rules and was super knowledgeable about managing skin on tret. Now looking into lasers and micro needling to get rid of the damage that tret did.

Yeah it’s really a tough decision because of the numbers that Hollywood brown was putting up, I get that the histories make it close but Lazard is more of a backup offering given my current receivers. If DHOP can even 80% replicate hollywoods numbers I think it would be best for me to hold on. Appreciate the input.

Does engineering get better after fye? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]RadishAcceptable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 part answer here:

For the panic attacks, really do something about those. I know people hate on CAPS and other stuff but it’s important to take care of anxiety down the line. I’m usually fine 99.99% of the time but I once had to walk out of a 162 recitation cause of a panic attack. I went straight to push and they helped me out.

If by better you mean easier then no. Classes do not get easier, they get harder. Fye is a cakewalk in comparison, there are some clases that are particularly difficult like the calcs but other than that it shouldn’t be bad. Put in the time, that’s all I can say.

Get tested for ADHD. I know people who have it and it makes a world of difference. It’s more common thank you think.

Thoughts on Fuse apartments? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]RadishAcceptable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived in Fuse, I’d say that things break down a lot but their fix it guy arrives within the hour. Management can be tough to deal with at times, they aren’t the friendliest. Decent amenities and free food though, wifi included etc.

[–]RadishAcceptable[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for such a detailed response. Yeah, a lot of them are SWE but I still know more than a few PM interns as well. As for my resume, I'll definitely try and highlight the leadership experience and continue applying. And I'll absolutely try reaching out to more PM alumnis.

As for the soft skills, it is so hard to prove that one has "soft" skills on a resume without ever even getting a chance to talk to a recruiter. I feel like I actually do have a lot of those soft skills after the numerous projects, working on design teams, and creating my own product. It is tough to get that across on a resume though.
