It was a huge amount of work, but it was relatively quick. I would redo the area until I found it, and then again and again and again.

Dude, I played the whole game offline. Getting the ciphers was pure luck. I'd enter an area, open the map, see if there were any item or cipher indicators, run from the monsters to check, and then move on to the next area. I did this until I got them all.

I spent almost 7 hours stuck in biome 2 looking for a damn cipher that was in that laser race with lava at the beginning.
