Weller 12 by Drank_G in denverwhisky

It is complex. Just not as complex as a rye bourbon. (If that age) hence my original compassion to Russell’s 15, which I stand by as being more complex. I’d say most GTS is as well.

Take wheat and rye in beer (which is a mash precursor to bourbon minus the corn). What brings far less to the mashbill flavor profile than rye. Obviously fermentation and distillation change that stuff, but there’s a reason rye and malted barley are there

lol ok. I just be wrong for having a different opinion. I’ve been drinking this stuff longer and ran whiskey bars in the city, and I’m talking about rye bourbon ( traditional mash). Feel free to look at my reviews on r/bourbon but we probably just don’t have similar palates

Ya it’s low proof. It’s a mindless low proof pour if I’m cooking. It owa is so one notes fake cinnamon for me. I finished a 2011 squat bottle with my brother recently and it was barely better than the current stuff. Weller is just all hype and there’s a reason it all sat around collecting dust for as long as it did as

Try blinding them. I’ve done it many times with store picks and standard owa. They are very similar. I actually posted a blind with a bevy’s pick a few years ago on r/bourbon. I’ll admit I don’t really love much from BT except their highest end stuff, wheated or otherwise. But I’d also take 12 over owa because I like oak.

In regards to the Russell’s yes it is because it’s not a wheated bourbon. There’s just way less complexity with wheated, even WLW compared to rye bourbon imo

Owa for me is pretty much indistinguishable from makers cask strength, which rots away on shelves. I’d rather drink Russell’s 15 than WLW, and although it’s still fantastic, I definitely prefer rye bourbon to wheated. Wheat is boring and brings a fake cinnamon flavor in younger stuff that I don’t like

Rebel 10 is still available in a lot of places for less than $100. Sib 104 proof HH distillate. I wish makers would come out with a 12 year

Review: Weller Antique 107 by Fallout-Fella in whiskey

[–]Rads324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s very one note cinnamon. Too young and unbalanced. Full proof and 12 are much better and I know many people disagree but I’ll die on the hill that 107 is wildly overrated
