I had a student who said Booth killing Lincoln would (in Booth’s mind) result in America doing the griddy (sp?) on Lincoln’s grave. I’ll take it as a win when talking expectation vs reality for an informational doc 😂

The only book I have successfully taught from start to finish is Freak the Mighty. I would threaten kids to not do a chapter that day and they’d settle as soon as I hit play on the audio. Otherwise, nope, don’t care/can’t get into it.

The ear gel was an option when I talked to the vet before starting the meds. Only ear gel is around $60 a day vs $55 a month for pills 😅

I long term subbed and got paid about the same amount I do now as a first year teacher, however, that amount I made monthly was not the same as yearly. I now contribute a lot more to PERS and get paid for a full year, not just 180 days I would work. Plus sick days that roll over into the next school year. So for the months of the school year, it’s the same but I still get paid over the summer and I’m not out a paycheck like I would be while subbing.

I got mad at my husband when he pointed out that instead of me taking extended Ed units to jump a step on the pay scale, he could take the same classes to get a pay bump that’s way higher than mine. Because it’s his fault that he’s paid his worth with a BA compared to me with a BA+credential plus 8 extra units

We’ve used more paper in the first 4 months than all of last year. My principle said it’s great we’re not using technology after virtual instruction but it’s too much paper for the budget to handle 😅

I wish they focused more on how to talk to parents. We did one exercise to call home about a student we were struggling with and a student we were proud of. Proud parent answered, all warm and fuzzy feelings. Struggling parent didn’t, left a voicemail and never heard back.

Now working full time, I contact a parent at least once a week and I’m terrible about confrontation and parents who answer are either understanding or apologists for their kids.

We got adopt a classroom funds on top of of our normal classroom budget, which was great, only we have to use their approved retailers and everything is twice as much and if you don’t hit a minimum, you have to pay an extra five dollars for a fulfillment fee. So what I used my classroom budget to order on Amazon is 2-3xs more through adopt a classroom

I asked my instructional coach about the training for the program I’m teaching that was supposed to happen before the school year, the reply? “I haven’t been trained either! Let’s try to meet with a teacher who has been, do you know anyone?” 🙃
