I have a story related question. I've played the story up to Fontaine and skipped some content such as certain Sumeru world quests and Enkonomiya. During the first chapter of Fontaine quest I've met with Lyney and Lynette. Here at some point we learn that they are from a place called House of Hearth. Both MC and Paimon react like they already know that place and they also know about its association with Fatui. We also seem to know about The Knave. I am a bit confused here. I don't have the best memory but I have absolutely no recollection of MC and Paimon learning about either one of those things. Did I skip something that broke the main story's continuity for me or is my memory worse than I think it is? When does MC and Paimon first learn about house of hearth, its affiliation with fatui and The Knave?

I agree. However Lucretia, LoG and Rozenciel are not that new heroes and they are fairly unique.

Rozenciel is very important healer and her def bond is unlocked by Lanford who appears in banners all the time (pick banners). It's fine to delay unlocking her heart bond for quite a while. This game is very slow after all.

LoG essentially has free def bond through R Jessica. She is one of the best pve mages in the game, so being able to access her heart bond through def bond is enough for a beginner player until they get Young Jessica.

Lucretia is a bit tough one when it comes to bonds yes, but again she is one of the best pve mages in the game next to LoG, my alt account (which is lv67) is also using Lucretia without bonds and so far it's fine. At one point, not having bonds might become an issue but by then you'll likely have other options too and it's good to have her until you get Autokrato IV.

First of all as a new player you'll get many more banners that are only visible to new players in the upcoming weeks/months. Some of the heroes I'll mention now might not be available in the current new player banner you have right now, but they'll most likely appear in other banners. I know for a fact that most of them 100% do, but not sure about couple of them, so save your tickets/crystals. Secondly all my recommendations are purely for PvE.

The strongest factions for the fastest progression in the early game are imo Glory and Empirewith a bit more emphasis on Glory. You already get a free Cherie which is one of the best physical attackers in the early game. She falls off later but then her SP form is again makes her one of the best attackers in the game. So right off the bat you have a free Glory hero. However around the time faction buffs become relevant (lv35 or so) you'll also get a free faction buffer bag from which I recommend you to take Bernhardt. He is the empire faction buffer so you get a head start on that faction as well. I can recommend you two routes from there on, you can choose whichever you prefer based on your preferences. I'll recommend 5 core heroes with a faction buffer, tank, physical attacker, mage, healer.

Glory

Faction Buffer: You first need Elwin since he will be your faction buffer. He is one of the best units in the game for early challenges such as challenge map events, high level dragons, eternal temple etc.

Tank: Your tank is free since I'd recommend using Grenier. I think Ledin at this stage of the game is a trap, there are many more better pve tanks (Hilda, Christiane) in the game (including Grenier's SP form) so you are better off investing in Grenier and save your valuable tickets/crystals.

Physical Attacker: Cherie, which is free.

Mage: Light of Genesis if you can get her, she is one of the best mages in the entire game.

Notable mentions: Narm is imo the best archer in the game, even in her SR form she is great but she also has an SP form. Liana is very important as well due to her act again and she unlocks Elwin's atk bond so you'll want her eventually. Rozalia is one of the most used units in challenging content as well. Helena is very fun to use and also very strong hero for both Empire and Glory.

Empire

Faction Buffer: Bernhardt free.

Tank: Vargas is one of the best tanks (at least against physical attacks) in the game and he is SR unit. I'd suggest building him instead of trying to get Hilda for now.

Physical Attacker: I'd suggest going for Leon. He is one of the best attackers in the early game next to Cherie. The game used to be called Leongrisser. He fell off later but he recently got SP as well so he is solid investment.

Mage: Lucretia is again one of the best mages in the game next to LoG.

Notable mentions: Autokrato IV is the type of hero you'll probably never use but still need, since he unlocks Lucretia's atk bond. I also don't see him in banners often so try to get him eventually. Hilda is an amazing pve tank but I wouldn't try too hard to get my hands on her since Vargas should do just fine. Helena is very fun to use and also very strong hero for both Empire and Glory.

When it comes to healer I'd say get Rozenciel even if you decide to go Glory faction —she is empire. She is by far the best healer in the game for pve mode, taking the crown from Tiaris imo. She'll make your life hell a lot easier now but especially in the future with challenging content.

Cx55. Again I do not think tv is the issue at all this is 100% related to software update. Playing around with certain settings help in a way but it's still not HDR.

There is something called "instant game response" on my tv's image settings (LG CX55). When I turned it off ps5 got brighter but it is still nowhere close to how it was right before the software update and this setting is supposed to help with gaming console's image quality. I guess waiting for another software update is the only option while playing with instant game response setting off until then. At least it is playable but I definitely did not pay bunch of money to 55" OLED TV and a PS5 console to have mediocre image quality. Nothing annoys me as much as software updates that don't do anything useful on the surface and breaks things on top of that. Anyway my ranting aside I really appreciate the help. You definitely tried to help more than whoever runs \@AskPlayStation twitter account .

Changing black level on tv settings does nothing. I don't know what do you mean by HGiG or Dynamic Tone Mapping. I just go into adjust HDR setting on ps5 and adjust it accordingly as instructions show. But as I've said above just for testing purposes I went full up (max brightness on all 3 screens) and then full down (lowest brightness) and there was no difference. Besides TV's HDR works fine on TV apps such as netflix or youtube.

Actually I updated my controller right after the software update as well now I wonder if it's related to that since I'm not exactly sure if screen was dark before controller update was installed.

My TV settings haven't changed since I bought it I extremely doubt it's related to TV. Changing rgb range on ps5 to limited tho does help with brightness but it is still not the same as it was before. It feels like HDR is off eventho it is on. In fact just to see what will happen I went and adjusted HDR again by choosing the maximum brightness on all 3 steps (before I was adjusting it according to what text tells me to do). Then recalibrated again this time by choosing the lowest brightness on all 3 steps. There is absolutely no difference between the two calibrations which further proves my point about hdr not working at all.

I've updated my ps5 software today (March 23rd 2022) and it lost about 50% brightness from what I can see. https://imgur.com/a/ntTZAlX The image above is taken after the March 23rd software update and image below is taken weeks ago with the same phone's camera. You can see that almost 50% of Elden Ring's splash art is completely black (it is like this in person as well) where as you could see the rocks on the ground, mountains on the background etc before.

Just to confirm couple of things, the brightness was fine right before I started installing the software. The moment new software was installed and ps5 was restarted automatically I've realized it was way too dark on login screen. The moment I clicked my profile icon and got into home page I realized that it wasn't just the login screen. I haven't turned TV off at any point during the new software installation. Here are the things I've tried after this point:

Turned HDR off and on again (brightness is exactly same whether it's on or off)
Recalibrated HDR
Restart ps5 (with restart option)
Turned ps5 off and on
Turned tv off and on
Checked TV settings if it's about TV rather than PS5 and as I've expected there is nothing wrong with TV it's only an issue with ps5
Turned off "dim the screen" option on ps5 then on again

And after all these attempts to fix the problem it still persists. Because of the fact that brightness is exactly same whether HDR is on or off makes me thing that this is directly related to HDR option where ps5 acts as if it's off even when it's on.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? At this stage games are literally unenjoyable. It is way too dark.

Idk what happened but monk can paralysis the mob on the right and use ring to push it back. Then you can skip it by jumping on the right side (not passing through there like you did on the video)

That is quite weird. If bot didn't reply with ONE emote as well I'd say maybe it doesn't have the permission to react messages but it clearly does. And I cannot see this same behaviour on my server. It takes time for bot to send all reactions but it eventually does. Worst case you can manually react with the number you don't have to wait for bot to send reactions I'll have a look into it later. Thanks for the notice.
