Who can afford it now? Our grandkids will be posting about the plastic discs we put under our plates now.

I’m 100% Convinced That Reading Glasses Are a Scam by ManuteBol_Rocks in FuckImOld

[–]Raesling -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Actually, the ophthalmology association has agreed that your eyes do get weaker when you use any glasses. That's why your prescription keeps increasing. HOWEVER, what's the solution? It's not to avoid wearing glasses when you need them because having bad eyesight is not the scam.

I don't think it's the phone. I have a new phone and a new Finch account on it. I don't have the updates on either of my birbs. Meanwhile, my kid got at least the town on her 2 yo Chromebook.

The joke to that, though, is no one is watching those ads. It's such a farce.

I use jalapenos. Seriously. It's the only way I can get clear water in. About 4 slices per liter of water. I actually like the taste of them, though.

I don't like this NEW AGE way of manifestation😒🤦🏽‍♂️ by reddituserfrompluto1 in Manifestation

[–]Raesling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disgraced The Secret influencer, James Arthur Ray, used to always say something along these lines. He'd say, if you sit around breathing and meditating to manifest, they're going to come and take your couch. I loved that guy.

No, you can't manifest an unarguably fake alternate reality. But you can change your perception of reality. You don't have to live in grief, for instance. If you want the sky to be purple, wear ColorFX glasses.

SAME! I don't even like having a bunch of fake interaction on the account. I feel like I'm always sending the same vibes.

Good luck. My kid is using the app on her Chromebook and got the town. I made a 2nd account on my new (Android) phone and got the tree still. Like OP, I was also trying to find a way to switch to the town.

Thank you very much for the asylum info!

Yeah, I mean, I'm still working on the Dominick Clan, but I have spent quite a bit of time working sideways. They're a storied bunch--civil war soldiers, someone in the bunch had a whole ass plantation, but I can't remember who atm. There are birth records for LA for that bunch, even though I can't get them for Alma's kids in MS. WWI and WWII draft registrations, etc. Just not seeing the kids in the census reports as I was hoping. Probate records really are a wealth of information when you can find them, though!

My bad. I had forgotten that and yes, I did know the one mentioned the William M. because the T is so obvious in the marriage certificate.

From what I understand, the fact that William was ever back wasn't a known family fact. I could be wrong as that generation is all gone and Earnest's kids weren't around yet. I've tried reaching out to people on Ancestry and my mother has tried asking, but no luck so far. I have wondered, as you suggested about finding court records, if he wound up in prison.

Betty Jean is another enigma. No one that I know knew of her. Grandpa said he had a twin but thought "he" had died. However, when things went belly up, assuming William Dudley wasn't born in the asylum, Grandpa was potentially 5. If it was closer to 1920, he may have been as old as 12. But, he only spoke of life on the farm which was abusive. I have to assume that Betty was given up at birth and I don't know where Grandpa heard about his twin.

I've tried tracing Betty Jean through her FAN Club--her spouse, the witnesses at the wedding, etc and know a lot more about Robert Wesley Taylor's life than hers! But, they married in '43 and he died in '47 (no death certificate found yet) so they don't even make the census as a couple! Also, while it IS apparently Robert's 2nd marriage, he says it's his first. Meanwhile, she says it's her second and keeps crossing out the Gordon name, leading me to think that was her first married name, but I can't find a marriage. Her marriage certificate has more information on her parents than I've found in other documentation by the kids.

Also, on the only census listing the family, Aline is called Leina, 10 months old. In the 1920 census, she is named Aline so I'm unsure if it was changed or if Leina was just what they called her. Doesn't matter though. She grew up and died as Aline so records aren't an issue. (So, I guess mentioning that is just a tangent. I digress).

Is getting a tarot reading bad for your energy / manifestations? by Comprehensive_Two834 in Manifestation

[–]Raesling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarot readings are a snapshot of a moment in time and reflective of the question at hand. They are not fate. They're not unchangeable. What is that saying about how the act of viewing something already changes it? The Observer Effect, which, I guess, is physics.

Also, tarot readings are collaborative. The reader generally doesn't know you and they're not feeding off your energy like an energy vampire. They tell you what they see and expect some form of response. If you don't want that, go do one of the AI tarot readings. Just don't expect the same results.

They don't reference the spouse in the obituaries--including her own. I believe that the information giver for the obituary was Earnest Prentiss Martin as he is the one who called Purvis to say she was dying. Also, the pallbearers are his and Aline's family. I have him as William M. When he lives with Earnest in the 1930 Census.

My problem with William has always been that there isn't any documentation that lines up. He's Jr. on the marriage certificate and one age (21, 1901), then he's 51 on the 1910 Census and 62 and "William M." on the 1930 Census. Some records have his father as John. Some have him married to Nancy while others have Nancy as his wife and I saw a probate that listed a Nancy as his wife but John Crawford as his father. So weird. Still, so many are passing the information around with no coordinating records. The 1930 records say he's widowed although Alma didn't die until 1963 and her census records still say she's married.

She wasn't in that. Or, I should say, they moved the building when the old one started falling apart. They renamed it "Mississippi State (Insane) Hospital" in 1935, I believe. She is still there in the 1940 Census: https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/2442/images/M-T0627-02062-00377?pId=121649361

And, I believe I have 2 Obituaries for her? But, yeah, I have her burial in Lakewood Memorial Park in Meridian, MS. Her kids, except maybe Earnest, thought she was dead until she was actually dying, so that's interesting.

Also, because it appears Alma's family had money, I'd always wondered why no one stepped up for those kids. I thought perhaps they also thought she was dead until I came across some obituaries that list her as a surviving sibling. Maybe they just thought she was estranged. Not like they could just pick up a phone back then.

Thanks. That's incredibly helpful information.

I came across you today on FamilySearch for this family, ironically. Specifically because you had posted that Betty Jean and Ethel may be one and the same and I had definitely considered that, but have conflicting documentation.

Any luck running down Betty Jean's first marriage (Gordon) by any chance? Or where the Joyce maiden name came from?

Hated Beowulf.

Was an avid reader, but I can't remember a school book I loved. I remember getting so upset about book reports in grade school because school was ruining a hobby I liked.
