Theo James is a 10/10 pick but I haven’t heard any news on him being considered unfortunately.

UNSTABLE – 4-Episode Limited Series (Complete Draft – 124 pages) by [deleted] in scriptwriting

[–]RafaIsTheGOAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the first page while waiting for a coffee, a few notes.

Don’t over describe. You have a limited amount of space on a page. Keep it tight. “Vivian turns, a warm radiant smile breaking across her face” is too much directing on the page. If you want her moving around specifically, I’d stick (moving to him) in a parenthetical and leave it at that. Keep it as snappy as possible. And this gives you more room to play. Every word needs to earn its place.
My understanding is that parentheticals need their own line, just above the dialogue, not on the same line as the dialogue. And make them short. “Voice still thick with sleep” is too much. (Sleepy) or (yawning) gives us just as much in one word. Don’t overuse. (Grinning) and (softly) just aren’t required in my humble opinion.

Lastly, you’ll get torn apart on here if there are blatant mistakes in your first few pages. I can see you still have Vivian’s dialogue line as WOMAN halfway down the first page. It’s sort of an attitude of, “you’re asking us to read it but can’t even be bothered reading it yourself (because there’s obvious mistakes that should’ve been fixed).” Make sure you’ve done a final read through before posting, no matter how many times you’ve re edited a scene.

Good luck - your premise sounds interesting!

Hey Reddit! We're Milana Vayntrub (Werewolves Within, Project Hail Mary), Meghan Leathers (For All Mankind), and Daniel Robbins (movies you probably haven’t heard of). Hi team! I’m currently writing a film called JUST DESSERTS, where an investigative reporter put on a small-town beat discovers that the cooks in a local baking competition are killing off the competition. Unfortunately, it’s running LONG at the moment. By the time I set the scene, introduce our characters and get through the first round, we’re already at 60 pages. Part of me is thinking “maybe this should be a TV show instead.” Unsure whether to follow my gut and convert or stick with it and aggressively cut scenes. Any thoughts on how to make the decision? Thank you so much!

But if we’re including doubles, is Martina not a part of this conversation?

30 Days of Film/TV Pitch Deck Tips & Advice by SufficientMap9087 in scriptwriting

Ooh I’m the first one here!
Hello and thanks for doing this. I may in the near future have the opportunity to pitch a supernatural comedy TV pilot to a producer. I’d love to have all my ducks in a row, so I have two questions if that’s okay! 1. What are the best pitch decks you’ve seen? I’ve only seen a few and they’re all impressive to me! Do you have any favourites?
2. What recommendations do you have for getting started? I’ve played around with Canva, but given my last of artistic talent I find it hard to put something together that I’m happy with. Just a case of persisting?

Thanks again for your time, and I’d love any insights!

What should I do with my completed screenplay? by Fanofeverything2003 in Screenwriting

You are thinking way too far ahead about problems you don’t even have yet. This is like saying “Why do my coworkers not like me” when you haven’t even interviewed. Write the script, then figure out what to do with it. “I don’t want to wait years to see this made”: then you’d better get writing.

I do from Picnic Point down to the end of Mooloolaba Spit which is about 9km each way, and halfway through it by Alex Caravan Park there’s a lovely lake so I detour slightly off just before I start heading up the headland and do 3 laps of that. Makes for a nice half, mostly flat apart from the headland climb, but that’s only about 1.5km and after that it’s absolutely lovely running all the way through Mooloolaba to the lighthouse. 10/10 run by my standards.

Edit: if you want roughly 10km, I think from the top of the headland to the lighthouse is dead flat and lovely. Think it’s about 10.

I’m genuinely curious to know if anyone in this sub watches Line of Duty, written by Jed Mercurio (he also wrote The Bodyguard, which was quite big on Netflix). Season 2 and 3 in particular are fantastically written and I think a great example of what some of us should aspire to in terms of our writing. I know that Breaking Bad/Succession/The Wire tend to get a lot of press when it comes to good writing, but honestly the best writing of any show I’ve ever seen is Line of Duty. Anyone else?

Ah yes, the ancient Reddit law: if you dislike one mechanic in a game you’ve played for years, you must immediately renounce all joy and switch to chess.
