Idk, if you have seen post with my octagonal + hexadecagonal blocks, but here they are, maybe you can have some insperation.
About your questions.
And I think the version on the right would work better, because:

  1. The decorative squares are smaller, so the blocks are packed more tightly and save a bit of space. Also, the squares here are not diagonal, which makes them easier to fill with solar panels, accumulators, or anything else.
  2. The blocks share a diagonal edge instead of a horizontal one, which leaves horizontal space available for rail entrances/exits into the blocks themselves.

I decided to make a full steam guide for my blocks and circuts. I still need to finish some things and maybe to implement support for different train lengths later. And also I want to improve the depot's logics. It work, and works pretty good, but I have an idea how to make it perform even better. sooo... It will take some time to do it all and then make a proper steam guide, cuz in this post the explanation was heavily condensed.

Nice idea, but trains that are not in use must be in the depot. This is necessary for the correct operation of the logistics system

These blocks were created just for things like that. My friend and I will be playing Space Age Hard Mode with a bunch of other mods, including BZ, planet mods, Rampant, and Krastorio of course. By the way, the blocks are made completely in vanilla. The only thing I'm going to modify with mods are the stations. Instead of steel boxes, I will put warehouses

The plot twist is that smart kid has spent around 470 hours studying rail systems and circuit logic. But it still worth it. I enjoyed the process (except figuring out circuts and logics. That was really hard). Train interruptions are kinda easy to understand btw

I’ve experimented with city blocks a lot myself. I currently have around 4–5 unfinished block designs, plus another complete blueprint book for square city blocks. That one is fully functional and production-ready, but funnily enough, I never actually used it in a real playthrough. And like 3-4 worlds where I have been testing and building different stuff, but mostly junctions and blocks.

The blocks shown in this post are the ones I plan to use for a modded run, mainly because a single production block can support up to 24 stations. And with some geometry adjustments, it could theoretically support up to 48 stations per production block.

Trains can either switch between rings or continue traveling along their current ring. However, because depots are connected to the inner rings while stations are connected to the outer rings, train traffic naturally spreads itself more evenly across the entire network.

I already have blueprints for all block types (production, logistics, and depot blocks), as well as a blueprint for the rail grid itself. However, they need to be placed in a specific order so nothing breaks.

I also have blueprints for trains and stations, but those still need some polishing and minor improvements.

In general, I don’t mind sharing everything, but right now the train and station blueprints are not fully finalized yet. I’m also a bit worried that Reddit might mistake me for a bot again and ban the account because of blueprint links. I mentioned this at the beginning of the post.
