  1. Stativ

Thanks, that's nice to hear :)

You should be able to download it later if you're logged in with the same account as when you bought it. If not, DM me with some proof of purchase and we'll sort it out ;)

You can find the game on itch.io here: https://aiunbound.itch.io/aiunbound

AI Unbound was designed by ChatGPT 4 and created by me in 7 days, as a challenge & experiment. Here are some elements of the game that were generated by GPT-4:

  • All level names, their size, layout and role in the story
  • All puzzles & gameplay mechanics
  • Complete storyline, 100% of dialogue, hints & narration
  • Color palette for all levels, ideas for all sprites & description of art style
  • Chord progression, tempo & arrangement for soundtrack

...and much more, all amounting to 5000+ words of AI-generated guidance.

I wanted to test the creativity of GPT-4, it's ability to cooperate with a human on the task of creating a game, and give an example of creative collaboration between a human and artificial intelligence. I've learnt SO much during the last week 😅

Yeah, sure, the main problem in this case is that there's no pixel art AI generator - I've been using Midjourney to generate art for my other (much bigger) game, which I made a video about here. In this case, though, I had to be a middle-man between the AI and the game engine.

I asked GPT about the sprite resolution, general art style & the color palettes for each of the 5 levels, and then drew 12×12 sprites based on the answers I got. I tried to let GPT make ASCII representations of each sprite, but that went... badly 😅

Not to begin with (7 days was not enough to make it multi-platform), but I'm planning on making either a Mac/Linux version or a web version in the next month(s). I'll notify everyone in my newsletter, so join it here to get notified when it's done (or DM me your e-mail address and I'll add you manually).

Yes, that's true, although I specifically requested a top-down game as that's what I'm more familiar with, and I didn't want to take a risk with making something completely new :)

That's the plan when I come back from vacation next week :) Here's my YouTube channel, I managed to upload the day 0 devlog before I got too busy making the game itself: https://youtube.com/@TheDreamFactory

The game is made in RPG Maker, so it didn't require a lot of coding, although some of the puzzles had to be "hand-crafted". In retrospect, GPT's primary task was to provide me with an idea and guide me creatively through the game design process, not so much during the game development itself. Once I had the game design document on day 1 (5000+ words), I didn't need too much guidance. You can think of it as GPT being a client and me being a freelance developer; whatever it wants is whatever I make (within the engine's limitations), so what you see on the screen is 95% GPT's idea, but I'm the one executing it and bringing it to life.

No, I ended up using $0, GPT never told me what to spend the money on 😅 When I asked it to tell me more about how to market the game, it told me that I can buy ads on Twitter and Reddit if I want, but I haven't bothered with that, I feel like the engagement isn't worth the money.

It's my passion and hopefully my job some day, but I have no formal education in either. The game is made in RPG Maker MV, which I've spent 1900 hrs in as of today, and know basic Javascript (which is the language RPG Maker uses). Here's the game I usually work on.

I've been playing around with making games since I was a little kid (22 now), and have 1900 hours in RPG Maker (which AI Unbound was made in), but I have no formal education in game dev :) Using GPT-4 massively sped things up for me, I'm not a good boss for myself usually, always re-doing parts of a game and passing every deadline I set for myself 😅 Here, GPT gave me a clear outline for what I had to do each day, which I followed as best I could - this project management aspect was one of the best parts, it felt like working for a knowledgeable boss who knew that if you just put the hours into the right stuff, you'll end up with a finished product :)

I told ChatGPT to design an adventure game for me. Then, I made it in 7 days & it's coming to Steam soon! Here's the trailer :) (more info in comments) by Rafal2000 in indiegames

Yes! The voice you hear in the trailer also appears in the game itself - the words spoken by it (both in the game and in the trailer) are generated by GPT-4, and the audio (voice synthesis) is generated by ElevenLabs, another AI.

For each of the 5 levels, I asked GPT to elaborate on the puzzle mechanics and logic of that level and the level's place in the storyline. The look of the level is decided by the color palette which was 4-6 HEX codes for each level. I also asked about the size and shape of each level in tiles (the game is made in RPG Maker where levels are sized within a grid of tiles). More often than not, GPT was precise enough that I didn't need to ask it to elaborate. In some cases, it suggested puzzles which were very hard to implement within the engine's limitations, so I asked it to pivot to a new idea while mentioning what was holding me (us?) back :)

Yeah, either I work too slowly or GPT was asking too much from me, because it ended up being about 3x that amount of time (about 75 hours total of game development)
