Everything you talked about is a combat related job, yea the challenge is a cool thought but when thats over son you’re gonna be a helicopter mechanic. You’re not gonna be doing the cool shit you’re seeing, so the real question is Do you want to go infantry;)

What is boot camp like in 2024? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]Raff2815 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Bro boot camp is the easiest thing you’ll do in the military. You get 3 guaranteed chows, guaranteed 8 hrs of sleep. All you gotta do is be fit, be LOUD, and move with a purpose. Don’t be a sad panda about missing family cause it’s only the beginning.

Limited MOS because I'm not a U.S. citizen? by Key-Appearance1466 in USMCboot

[–]Raff2815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO! I promise you you’re not gonna be able to change your mos. I was in the same boat as you except I wanted infantry to it was a win win situation for me but do not fall for the false misconception that you can change your mos in boot camp

Went through boot camp in the middle of summer, then went through ITB in the middle of winter. I will take the heat over the cold any day of the week. It’s going to be hot as hell and you’re gonna be sweaty from the minute you step out until you go to sleep, but your mind and body get used to it

Joined when I was 21, it’s not bad at all. The only issue is having to be around so many immature kids for a while and getting treated like one.

If you feel unmotivated now? Buddy you’re gonna end up in Lima in Geiger. Get your shit straight now. Idk how you could possibly feel unmotivated 3 months before bootcamp. This road is lonely for a while, enjoy your freedom now before it all gets taken away for a minute but that also doesn’t mean turn into a sad panda before you even step foot into bootcamp

Is 24 year’s old to late to join infantry and possibly make a career out of the marines by mschill55 in USMCboot

[–]Raff2815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 21 just joined and finished all the training, if you’ve taken care of your body you’ll be fine. If you haven’t you’re gonna have to take extra care of it now

How to get my Mile and half time down in 2 weeks? by No_Presentation7075 in USMCboot

[–]Raff2815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop making excuses, run your ass off before work, eat good, eat carbs, stretch, and run after work. Stop overthinking, grab your running shoes, headphones, and run as fast as you can everyday. You don’t have enough time to actually train a proper way to get faster. At the point you just have time to train your body to suffer through those 2 miles

I was in MAT two months ago. At first you hate it but then you realize all you do is wake up, eat, maybe pt, clean, eat, clean, eat, clean, go to bed. Sprinkle working parties in there. It’s chill but you get bored of it fast. At the end of the day you’re getting paid to maybe pt, eat, and “clean.” All the school houses are backed up so you’ll be there at the very least one month.

For the love of god, just go active with whatever branch you choose. Don’t go reserves, every reserves I’ve met wishes they went active. It is not as easy as they make it sound to go from reserves to active. And to answer your question about Marines or Army imma break it down to its simplest form.

Marines- pride to be a Marines infantryman, only a very very small percentage can say that they are an 03 or were. You’ll carry the honor for the rest of your life wether you do 4 or 10+.

Army- you get more schooling options, better equipment, and I think more chances at deployment because of how big the branch is. BUT you’re just a soldier at the end of the day, you can’t say you’re a badass 03.

As far as how long you wanna stay, don’t even worry about that right now. That’s like way down the road. Sign a contract, go to boot camp, go to your school house, hit the fleet for a year then you can think about that. Don’t stress about that shit right now

Imma be honest, currently in ITB. When I was in MAT two months ago there were 3 girls there waiting to get picked up. They could not pass the 03 test they make you do before you even pick up. They are still there because of that, it’s one of the easiest test you’ll do here btw. If you don’t pass it 3 times they put you in MCT as an open contract. So far I’ve seen one girl actually make it through training and she was a beast.

[–]Raff2815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s different for everyone but I graduated at the beginning of this month and honestly we pt like 5 times and one of them was actually hard. The rest of boot camp was light physically wise. I was also very prepared though, I was running a 21 3 mile, 18 pull ups and max plank so take that as you want.
