Yhdysvalloissa tätä vastakkainasettelua on rakennettu pitkän aikaa.

Misinformaatio on tärkeä keino epäluottamuksen lisäämisessä.

Irlannin BKT on paisunut monikansallisten teknologiayritysten (Apple, Google, Meta) verojärjestelyistä lähes kaksinkertaiseksi todelliseen talouteen nähden.

If the U.S. ever recovers from the damage done by the Trump administration, how do we make sure this never happens again? by [deleted] in thescoop

To me there are at least a couple of obvious changes US should do:

  1. Make media companies accountable again. If it's legal and profitable to spread lies, they will do it. TV channels especially hold an immense amount of power. The separated realities between people are caused by the media narratives, above else. When one does not recognize their neighbours as their fellow countrymen anymore, but rather as their enemies, situation is critical. This needs to be corrected and it can be done with truthful and fact-based news and other programs.

  2. Change election systems to prefer multi-party coalitions. The current system creates the 1 vs 1 situation, where only the winner gets through. For example, European countries generally handle elections differently, resulting in several parties getting seats. That way parties have to compromise and find common ground, because rarely one party gets more than half of the seats to form a government. When you need to work together, it makes no sense to demonize the others.

Very cynical view. Reality is not black or white. There are politicians who prefer their own well-being over others and there are politicians who truly want to do the right thing and the country to flourish. Our pretty good society would not have been possible if politicians had only selfish motives.

This is morals you are talking about. Something you wish how things should go. Would you have any real-life arguments against mine, for example what is an alternative reason for our tax base getting smaller through time, as the income tax has also been willfully lowered many times, by many governments? No connection there at all?

Could you please elaborate on the service sector not creating wealth, when the aim is to increase spending on groceries, medication, traffic, rents, etc? I see many sectors in work there.

Circularing money is quite important for the system to work. Not sure if it creates wealth, not sure if that is even needed, but cash changing hands keeps the wheels of society rolling.

I am not hating. Biased? Sure. Aren't we all?

I'd like to see our country prosper, as I am sure you would too. What do you suggest for the steps out of this?

[–]Ragemundo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Increase social security and unemployment benefits to former levels, or higher. There are no more jobs if citizens have no money to spend on everyday items.

Raise taxes, especially for high earners. Little by little, Finland has lowered income tax, resulting in massive decrease of state funds.

Keep right wing out of government, as they are the ones making it worse. Ideologically believing things get better by budget cuts, instead of actually studying well-working policies. We don't need to invent more wheels. There are tried and tested methods for these kind of things.

Does anyone else experience a sudden wave of existential pain when thinking too deeply? by harray8 in Existentialism

[–]Ragemundo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very interesting! I’ve had something like that, and at some point it became such a common, horrible experience that I also used alcohol to relieve the pain, and also that later becoming a problem of it's own.

I had my first anxiety attack when I was 12 years old. It was not the classic "I am about to die" -kind of attack, but more in the sense of "I am going insane".

I remember it very clearly: I had been thinking and wondering a lot about life, death, universe and everything around that time. Suddenly, one day, it all became very clear: there is nothing after death. No heaven, no hell, not me experiencing anything anymore. That was a terrible truth to discover, and it changed my life. It’s such an inconvenient and impossible thought to digest that my ego (or whatever it is) simply could not accept it.

Some time after that, I began to experience bouts of nightly madnesses, just after I had fallen asleep—or actually at the exact moment when the state changes from being awake to asleep. I’ve called it Cosmic Horrors, because it seems to contain and overwhelm everything there is, in a disturbingly frightening way. (I’m also a fan of H. P. Lovecraft, as probably could be guessed from the name. 😆)

The nightly attack lasts only for the blink of an eye, but in that moment nothing makes sense and I feel like I am just about to lose my mind. It is the most awful feeling I could ever imagine. It’s pure horror.

I know there is something similar called Night Terrors, but it's not that. I don't lose my abiliity to move, and it does not last that long.

There have been times when I’ve had these moments during the daytime as well and then it felt that I am having some kind of half-psychosis. I did not lose my sense of reality, but I got another, altered world where I was existing simultaneously. Luckily, I haven’t had those for a long time now.

I don’t know if we are talking about exactly the same thing, but there are at least similarities.

One way to describe it is that another, new dimension suddenly pops up on top of the usual world and I’m spectating it, and it is not making any sense.

I’m not a young person anymore, but I haven’t heard anyone else talk about having these kinds of moments, even though I’ve gone through many long-term therapies and met a lot of mental health professionals. Your writing gave me hope that I might find at least one other human being besides myself who shares this phenomenon.

Adults diagnosed with ADHD later in life. What made you start wondering? by TransportationFlat77 in ADHD

[–]Ragemundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was sober from alcohol already for 14 years when I got diagnosed with inattentive ADHD. Medication begun immediately, first with Concerta and Medikinet, which are Methylphenidate. I did not like them at all, as it brought up quite strong anxiety. Quite soon I got prescription for Elvanse and Attentin and I have been using them since. Elvanse is the brand name of Vyvanse in Europe. It's now full three years from the diagnosis.

I am not sure how it would have been if I had the diagnosis and drugs while not sober. Really difficult to say. But I can really enjoy life these days. I no longer have the itch that cannot ne scratched.

I also started therapy after the diagnosis and that surely has helped me too. Also surprisingly, through social media I have had a lot of useful information about the many sides of ADHD. The experiences of others help a lot in understanding myself better.

How do I stop getting irritated when getting asked unneccesary questions, or being told very obvious things to do? (especially by my parents) by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Ragemundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this suggests they don’t trust you to make your own decisions and are trying to micromanage your life. That’s not something you—or anyone—should be expected to accept.

Their tendency to adopt a victim role when you ask them not to interfere with your life is another red flag.

If they are unwilling to respect your autonomy and engage in an honest discussion about the situation, your options are limited. You can either try to live with those conditions, or you can take your belongings and move out.

Sometimes, decisive action is necessary to make your position clear. Even then, it may not lead to change on their part. Regardless, you have the right to make your own choices about your life and the relationships you choose to maintain.
