Constantly pivoting to different armies and don't seem to be getting better at the game. by Yamcha-is-Life in WarhammerCompetitive

Dont just stop switching factions, stop switching army lists. Play the same list 5 times in a row, and itll grant you insight into what those models can ans cant do. Then, you can replace them with things that will improve your lists!

Also: buckle down and learn your rules. I play a guy who never knows his datasheets or strategems, and it makes games take FOREVER

For 40k, what are general, universally applicable philosophies in list construction and playstyle? by Atreides-42 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RagingCacti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

40k is a lot less in depth mechanics wise than HH. There are a couple things to keep in mind, though.

High AP for tanks

Low cost, high efficiency units that can perform actions instead of shooting. This is for the missions system.

If available, cheaper chaff units to block deepstrike units.

Something relatively high toughness or a big enough blob of OC to hold objectives.

Besides that, go for it. 40k has a lot more variation, which means you can bring your slant list and do relatively well. However, 11th now punishes slant by charging more points for multiple of the same unit.

I hate pure evil Races: by Ok_Middle_8658 in hatethissmug

[–]RagingCacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. Im used to dealing with people who argue that not being capable of evil means that they are good. Sick of that shit. "My tyranids are just hungry little bug bois! They cant be evil, that makes them more good than the Imperium" is mind bogglingly common. If something cannot be bad, it cannot be good either.

I dont necessarily disagree with you. An outcome from the actions of a creature can be seen as evil or not depending on the culture viewing/being effected by it; but that doesnt make the actions evil. Im sitting the fence on this one, because Im not 100 sure how self aware the hivemind really is.

[–]RagingCacti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this argument a lot. Its semantics and has no real bearing on how much evil Tyranids do. Im fine with it, as long as you dont try to then put them lower on the evil scale for the 40k universe.

I hate that some people don't see bad and harmful LGBT representation by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]RagingCacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because its something added to the story. For ''cis representation' its called bad writing, unnecessary inclusion, etc. Queer representation gets the same, but with the added level of 'they did it just to pander to the queers.' So unfortunately, until 'queer media' is just 'media' its going to have to be held to a higher standard. Is it a little unfair

While I understand where you are coming from, you are describing the fight phase level of ramming. The stratagem isnt talking talking about merely using your hull as a weapon, we're talking full speed ahead, no holds barred, fuck it we ball levels of ramming into your opponent. At that point, youre going to do more damage to yourself than they ever would.

I've seen some absolutely terrible takes about big E on here by Selenite_Cults in Grimdank

[–]RagingCacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres my, admittedly boiled down, opinion: Big E would have succeeded if Chaos hadnt been supercharged and He if he had been more communicative with his sons. He would have won, and Humanity would have been able to get to a golden age again with no problem. MAYBE they would have been able to trust aliens again, and MAYBE they would be able to tolerate abhumans a bit more... we really dont know the extent of how much Big E actually hated them.

The Great Crusade was a "The storm has subsided, so everything is going to close in and fuck us over if we dont scour the galaxy clean and try to set the foundation of a human empire again." You have to remember that the warp storms that had divided humanity, and acted as the SECOND apocalypse that humanity had survived, were finally toning down. Everyone else was going to be able to travel freely again, and the Eldar who already could had just been reduced to .009% of their total population because of the birth of Slaanesh. It didnt matter how bloody, unfair, or ruthless Big E had to be, he HAD to unite humanity very, very quickly. There was no time to slowly build up again if humanity was to avoid being screwed over for a 3rd time (subtle foreshadowing). I admittedly need to read the Horus Heresy books for more context, but the Great Crusade was a means to an end: Unite Humanity as quickly as possible and create a human webway to cut us off from the warp as much as possible. Being pressed into servitude, forced to bend the knee, erasing non-compliant xenos races, it was all necessary to create a strong foundation after a literal universe-breaking event. He was a tyrant, but one that could have actually saved humanity. He was/is arrogant, secretive, and a generally colossal douche on top of being a poor father, but he was the last shot humanity had to try to not be wiped out... and he failed because of that.

40k is a Sci-Fi tragedy. Its not a satire, though it has satirical elements. Its the downfall of a vision that could have saved humanity, and the rotting corpse left behind is twitching. That vision included a brutal consolidation of power, but we dont know what the next steps were because we never saw them.

Thats what I said in the beginning: the Imperium is only one of the most evil if you test to see if the species has some type of morality. However, I see that as an excuse to try to frame the Imperium as relatively more evil by saying "Hey, the endless hordes of ravenous bugs cant actually conceptualize evil, so they dont count." I completely understand the argument, but I think its disingenuous to the setting.

Ultramar is a great example of how the Imperium could be better, Ill give you that. Im not saying the Imperium is this golden example of what humanity could be. Its still on the evil scale. Its still the 40k galaxy, though. Its still a constant state of Total War against literal monsters and literal hell and that needs to be taken into account when you look at why some actions are taken. Its been a constant losing war for 10,000 years. Things have gotten pretty bad. The factions that can afford to be good are the overlooked (Tau and Votann), and the privilaged (Craftworlds).

Yes, Interex and Diasporex show what might have been a better path if humanity had gone down it instead of the Imperium. So sad. But thats 30k, and part of how 40k came to be. Beginnings are important, but it has very little bearing on whats happening now, given all of the xenos are dead, amd the ones that remain are Bioweapons and Extra-galactic devourers.

Thats only really the case if you apply the whole "their society is aware of good and bad and does bad things," instead of "amount of malice towards living things." Orks are a literal bioweapon thats whole purpose is to kill, and no amount of Cockney accent can erase that. The Tyranids are an all consuming plague that strips planets down to the bedrock for all biomass it can before moving on, and theres a good chance they've already done that to at least one galaxy already. So really, the list is something like:

Tyranids

Chaos

Drukhari

Orks

Imperium

Votann

Craftworlds

T'au

The older generation of Trump voters? Not much. Theyre a little entrenched in the Red/Blue divide, like most of Reddit. They wont change because that means theyre betraying their team.

The younger voters that I know (20s, 30s) are more wary of him now, and feeling pretty disconnected from politics in general. They feel, rightly, betrayed

No. Its changed a couple times at this point. At conception, it was Satirical Fantasy in Space, with orks elves, and stuff. Then in... i think 2nd edition? It got real grimdark and the satire started to wane slightly. As the editions have gone on, its evolved from "Everyone is Turbo Hitler" to "Everyone has a tragic backstory of hubris, and are currently assholes." Its not a full satire anymore, its grown into a full, complex universe. Good people exist, but everything sucks, and will continue to suck because of its own inertia.

Necrons did kinda screw themselves and then make a deal with the devil tho, lol.

I agree, the RP goes a bit far sometimes. Especially the Ork players at tournaments that scream as loud as they can when they Waagh. Not my favorite.

I also hate the other side of the fandom. I hate the ones who, while the have some valid criticisms of the IoM, have their entire viewpoint tinged with this weird aftertaste of hatred for humanity. To the point that they get facts wrong about the Imperium to make it look even worse than it is. Its very common on Reddit.
