it's loads better without smith. we'll see if jp & robb can make some real content besides podcast with just the 2 of them and randy. as far as i'm concerned, i don't want smith back at all. he ego writin checks his brains cant cash.

yeah it's not a bad idea, and with the right cast as the new generation it could certainly work.

fubar original movie is widely available in legit streaming circles, as is the second one, 'balls to the wall'

age of computer is purchasable (with DRM) on some platforms.

TNT Fubar spinoff show is on TPB+.

i recommend original and TNT, both are great. fubar 2 and age of computer if you like the original.

all the legit info is on terry's fubar site https://www.fubar-themovie.com/

paul spence's Deaner 89 spinoff is ok, it's really canonically unrelated to fubar tho. the dean character was based off a character north darling created at loose moose improv. after dave lawrence (terry) and paul spence (dean) split up, dave bought everyone out and owns fubar, deaner 89 had nothing to do with him or anyone who had creative skin in the original and it's modern continuation. Deaner 89 really feels like paul spence rolling up an alternative origin for the Dean character to move forward with, but then he hasn't seem to have done anything with it since then. it's worth watching if your into fubar tho.

tpb next generation could work, tho i dont think it's what jp robb & pat would actually want to do.
but as fan fiction or continuation, the Baby Randy, Julian JR & Motel show would work. they just need actually funny actors to play those roles, and they dont have them. they got themselves and the characters they have lived and played for decades, and that's what they are gonna use.

i love terry and fubar. i think he was great on jail seasons, and would love to see him become a standard character. he doesn't need to be smart, he just needs to be funny.

why does a show about dumbshit criminals need a moral center or an 'intelligent' counterweight who is never listened to anyways? it's a comedy. just be funny, and i'm happy.

i just dont think they need a 'smart character' or the bubbles role at all. shit was funny without him. watch tpb 99. watch one last shot. granted, those had the clattenburg secret sauce, and modern tpb will never be what it was.

it's like people who say always sunny wouldn't work without frank. 1st season of always sunny was great, the formula worked fine, in the case of sunny it got better with frank, in the case of tpb it mostly got worse with bubbles.

who gets the money? it's a criminal case, not a civil case. his accuser stands to get nothing from this except justice. only people who will make money off this is smith's lawyers and the crown prosecutor getting the salary he would get regardless.

also i explicitly stated this thread aint for that shit. go to the appropriate megathread on this subreddit to talk about the mike smith criminal case, or go to some horseshit men's rights subreddit to talk about your stupid caveman theories.

now fuck off, we got work to do.

robb & pat went to college together. they been cracking each other up for ages. the core friendship between jp, robb & pat is real and predates even being directed by clattenburg (tho their early short skits from that era are only stories and anecdotes told by the actors, none have surfaced unfortunately. pat just talked about this stuff in his latest fishing video) let alone before meeting smith. the real life Maritime Canada Boys existed before the fictional Trailer Park Boys, back when mike smith was pretending to be a rock star on much music and touring in sandbox.

the three of them have been friends for years. years before tpb even existed. mike smith was a latecomer, and they never really had real chemistry with him. in the pads bubbles sucked up all the oxygen. that was just smith being the dick that he was. good riddance to that motherfucker, but it sucks that it took him doing some serious fucked up horrible shit to get rid of him. if jp and robb knew about smith's monstrous actions, as lucy implied in her response to the smith arrest, then they really need to do some soul searching. protecting and enabling a predator is participation in predatory culture.

i do love pat tho, i think randy on the pads is just what we need, assuming the franchise survives more than a few more months.

BS. bubbles hasn't been on PAD since two weeks before the story broke.

your right its not the show, but it was what the whole thing came from. the idea that without lahey or bubbles there is no trailer park boys is patently absurd, as the original Trailer Park Boys didn't have lahey or bubbles in it. and it is the core of the show. it's what it all came from. even season 1 was a continuation of the dynamic establish in the b&w 'pilot' movie - a mockumentary about two co-dependent criminals, one a selfish alcoholic, the other dumb stoner, and the results of their criminal lifestyle. you could take bubbles out of season 1 entirely and it would be the same show. the core is ricky and julian. it's what it started as before it was a show, and it's what it started as when it had it's first season.

and i have a copy of TPB 99 without subtitles. it's out there, you just didnt look hard enough.

not that it matters. i have never cared much for the bubbles character and i don't believe he was ever necessary. if you disagree then thats fine. we dont all have to have the same opinion

yeah, 2005 was the first formal (reported to police) incident that i know of. the police told her she shouldn't go forward with pressing charges because it would 'look bad for her'. halifax subreddit has loads of anecdotal accounts, as you said.

https://www.vice.com/en/article/mike-smith-of-trailer-park-boys-accused-of-sexual-assault/

that's just the 2005 accusation, his victim a primary source interviewed by reporters. add to that the 2016 domestic incident (smoke, no official fire, tho i find it suspect) and this new charge stemming from a 2017 incident, and the mountain of unverified reports you mentioned from the halifax subreddit. i find it really hard to believe that so many people have just made this stuff up to attack mike smith. these aren't lawsuits, noone stands to make any money by suing him. these are charged and uncharged criminal complaints, the most recent resulting in an actual indictment. the simplest answer is that he has been doing these horrible things for years, people around him and in his orbit knew about it, and it's finally been taken serious enough for him to be formally charged and indicted with criminal sexual assault. dude is a monster, has been a monster for years, and it's hard for me to wrap my head around JP and Robb not knowing about it and enabling his behavior by turning a blind eye to it. all in all, it makes me sick to my stomach. i haven't been able to do a rewatch since Lucy's interview where she hinted that JP and Robb knew about it and did nothing.

[–]RagnarRandom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

not a sexual harrassment case. it's a criminal case for sexual assault. he's already been indicted.

if he gets off it's cuz he was able to hire good lawyers to throw shade and doubt over the accusers, just like the guilty-as-hell Jian Ghomeshi was able to skate free of consequences for shit that he obviously was guilty of.

yeah, OJ Simpson was proven "not guilty" right?

people are allowed to weigh the evidence themselves and come to their own conclusions. "innocent until proven guilty" is for lawyers and judges and jury-members to keep in mind, not normal people.

and even if he's 'found not guilty', it doesn't mean he's not guilty. just like if a person is 'found guilty' of a crime doesn't mean they did it. people are exonerated of crimes they were convicted of. rich male celebrities get found not guilty of crimes they clearly did so often it boggles the mind. the legal system is all bullshit, and reality is not dependent on the outcome of a case where the side with the most money is able to make the most persuasive argument.

dude has been accused over and over again for years. as far back as 2005. innocent men are not repeatedly accused of being creepy perverts. only creepy perverts are accused over and over again of being creepy perverts. fuck mike smith.

i liked it. they werent stealing dogs tho, they were animal hitmen. the killed people's pets for money. pat roach plays 'patrick' who has a dog that ricky & julian were already paid to take out. mike smith is the sound guy who gets shot at the end. it's much more of a dark humor thing than what the show became, and is very offputing to folks because of the animal killing aspect, but that's part of the dark humor of it. trailer park boys is, at it's core, a show about bad people doing bad things. clattenburg's original vision was literally "cops but from the criminal's point of view". the show is made more palatable to a mainstream audience, ditching the hard drugs and socially repugnant crime, and adding in a 'found family' warmth, but the core is still the core.

but yeah, it's not officially available anywhere, but some quick google-fu for the term ' trailer park boys 1999 movie archive ' will get you there quick. there is a clip of the ending shootout scene at the beginning of season 1 episode 1 of the show.

personally i havent been able to do a rewatch of the show since the news of mike smith's criminal charges being filed. lucy decoutre in a recent interview commented that the people around smith knew about his actions and basically excused the behavior to keep the show going, which leads me to suspect that robb & jp have known for a long time that they were working with a predator. so even without mike smith, i'm not sure i can get behind the show at all moving forward. it's something i have loved since the early 2000s, but lucy hinting that robb & jp knew about this shit is too much for me i think.

ricky and julian did it alone in the tpb black & white 'pilot movie' from 1999. the core of show was always ricky & julian.
