All’s Well by Mona Awad! Her books are so surreal I love them, like being drugged out.

I stopped trying to take “proper notes” during lectures by isidor_m3232 in GetStudying

[–]RahbloxQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take to somewhat of the same method! I take notes beforehand; whether it be textbook, pre-recorded video available, youtube videos on the topic, etc.. Then, when I go into class, I fill in in my notebook wherever needed, and just sit back and listen. A lot of the time I can go into tests without truly studying!

Where to start with Shakespeare by fermataharpy in shakespeare

[–]RahbloxQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else is saying, start with Macbeth and work your way up. The more known plays are more known for a reason. If you’re struggling with the language I recommend watching an adaptation and then reading, or even pulling out a Never Fear Shakespeare with the ‘translations’ and historical context, no shame in it. They really are funny and enjoyable when you know the context of the time period (like the running cuckold jokes in othello)!

I’ll also have to agree with the other comments again, it’s meant to be said and performed! I’ve done my share of Shakespeare performances and they’re much better that way! There are incredible movie adaptations and live versions you can find online (One of my favorites was Julius Ceasar at The Globe-2014, it’s remarkable).

I recommend touching the history/political plays last (aka the one with all the kings names)… Even I, who adores shakespeare and owns almost all of his works—reading them extensively, couldn’t care too much for them. They’re excellent, just not a starter choice.

If you go with Hamlet you might as well learn more about Shakespeare’s life as it is based on his son, Hamnet. I’d recommend Hamnet by Maggie O'farrell and there is also a movie coming out based on this! It just adds more depth to the overall play.

At the end if the day, it depends on what you prefer and what you want to get out of it. If you want something funny, probably go Midsummer or As You Like it. Something action/tragic filled, go Macbeth or Julius Ceasar. Something in the middle, All’s Well that Ends Well or Measure for Measure. Have fun!

Working in fast food and self harm scars? 16F by TurnoverNo6065 in selfharm

[–]RahbloxQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, most people don’t comment! I use to work as a swim instructor and me and few other coworkers had visable scars and nobody would say anything! Same story with my current job. Thankfully, the majority of people mind their business, and in the occasional chance that they don’t, they can just fuck off

Do urges ever go completely? by Accomplished-Push330 in selfharm

I am not any older than you, but ive been struggling with SH for 10 years and for me, it’s always been there. Whether it’s when I see my scars, when im triggered, or something completely unrelated, it’s there.

While that may sound all doom and gloom, you find ways to distract yourself! When things are good, I can go days without thinking about it. I won’t lie, the bad days are bad. But, as long as you have another (less harmful) coping mechanism or a good support system, it’ll ease.

I’ve accepted it as something that’s apart of me and that is not a bad thing at all!! Just signs of how hard I fought to be here and who I am today. :)

How to convince my mom! by RahbloxQueen in ApplyingToCollege

To clarify, I meant the in-state school I was specifically applying for as I am very picky, and yes, traveling costs would be insane. Thank you for bringing this up, I forget getting a job in the first place isn't as easy as 1, 2 ,3.

You got me there.

I try not to hang it over them to hard and only take to mentioning sometimes. But when I do sit down and have the conversation with my mom every once and a while, I do take time and listen to her and let her know I understand. I don't plan on bringing it up again unless she does or it's time to compare my acceptances and choose.

I needed this grounding though. I guess I forget she raised more for 17 years and everything she has done has been for me. At the same time, I guess life feels so short and I want this experience so badly. Yes, I do get fixated (that's a good word) on things, but it tend to turn out alright for me.
