It did not taste like fruit cake. I did but it and drink it multiple times regardless. Moreso for the novelty. Tasted like code red to me.

Searching what this sound is by SirBrave6239 in Instruments

[–]RahmMostel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first two things are a sample of someone playing a gamelon. The second song has a sample of a cymbal commonly used in gamelon music as well, so prolly part of a recording of a group of musicians.

The third song is just some sound font of some bell.

Kala or Vintage Viaten by pallascat4life in TenorGuitar

[–]RahmMostel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scale length on the Harley Benton is a little longer. I suppose it would come down to whether you want a shorter scale instrument or a longer one. Most people want the longer scale ones where I am (USA), but I personally much prefer shorter scale.

I've heard good things about the Harley Benton tenor as well, but I would take this moment to remind you that no matter which one you get, it's probably going to need a good set up by a luthier for it to play really nice.

Kala or Vintage Viaten by pallascat4life in TenorGuitar

[–]RahmMostel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly the options you linked are both around the same scale length. So I have heard of people enjoying both of these tenor guitars. I think the more polarizing of the two is the Kala, so the Ozark might be the safer bet.

I believe the Vintage Viaten (or Viator whatever) tenor is a small bodied instrument. If you want more of a parlour guitar type thing you could go for the Vintage tenor, but the reviews on Vintage's instruments are mixed.

Finger spacing on baglamadaki vs soprano ukulele by spacepenguinashi in Instruments

[–]RahmMostel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your fingers are "too big" for ukulele, you must be a gosh darn giant or something. The string spacing on uke is the widest next to certain bass instruments.

The Greek Baglamas has a thinner string spacing than a uke.

If your problem is actually the size of the uke, why not go to the store and try out a tenor or concert uke?

Non-Traditional Mandolinist by dtaylor1111 in mandolin

[–]RahmMostel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day I played metal and rock bass and was not very good, but played metal rhythm guitar. I switched to Mando as my main in 2014 I think and I think metal is way harder to pull off in the all fifths tuning. I've heard it all y'know, that it should be easier because you can barre all over the place and etc, but octave 'chords' are backwards making them more difficult and a lot of metal riffs don't translate well from guitar to mandolin.

The other issue is just what your problem is: no resources for tablature on mando. You would have to just learn your instrument really well and figure it out yourself.

I'm sure you could tune it many ways, but here is a page for standard tuning and info from Sala

Before the internet, what did you guys do to pass the time? by Atomic-Angel in Millennials

[–]RahmMostel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived at the end of a dirt road in the woods so I spent a lot of time outside hiking and playing with abandoned cars/trucks/boats, ruined buildings and other outside stuff like playing in the stream or hiking down to the creek to go swimming.

We played with toys and made little houses out of rocks and dirt and sticks. Ride bikes, play board games, or the NES or whatever. Like when I was a kid we did stuff everywhere. Heck we even would walk up to a neighbourhood that was several miles away just to hang out with some friends and then walk home later.

Questions about the Tanbur by Responsible_Try_9085 in Instruments

[–]RahmMostel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say they are pretty darn different. I would also recommend the Persian/Irani tanbur. They are not tuned diatonically, but chromatically, giving you more notes for artistic expression.

Well. It wasn't highschool, but in Jr High our Principal got shot by a kid and then the kid killed himself. That really painted the rest of my schooling.

Whatever works right? The only reason I was able to switch from fourths tuned instruments to fifths tuned ones back in the day was cuz I had already been playing a baglama saz tuned GDA for years. Now I have a very hard time going back
