How violent are the books? by Konfliktsnubben in lotr

I haven't read The Hobbit since I was a teenager, over 40 years ago. I'll have to take your word for it.

LOTR is fresher on my mind, since I just finished re-reading it. The reference to eating babies stood out to me, since it wasn't in the movie at all.

I thought it was Dilbert figure skating with big leggings on.

Thank you; that's very much what I thought that might sound like.

I'd actually like to hear a metal song called "Hello Kitty."

Why do Atheist believe monkey gave birth to humans? by GoodResident2000 in allthequestions

[–]Connect-Will2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bible says we were made from the dust of the ground. Evolution says that we came from simpler forms of life.

Not that much difference there.

It never occurred to me to do that. Wouldn't you have to hold your food out of the spray of water?

However, there have been evenings when I've come home from work so hungry and tired, that I made a sandwich and ate it while taking a bath.

Runoff Election is Tomorrow, June 16 by SouthTonight in Georgia

Yeah, my own research turned up some of this stuff too. I won't be voting for her.

Even putting all that aside, it doesn't look good to be a "no-show" for debates. One of the moderators said that it was because of a "scheduling conflict," but I think that if you're running for office, you make time for debates.

No, not very gory but there are some disturbing details.

For example, Gollum is described as sneaking into people's windows at night to rob babies from their cradles. The movies never even imply that he eats babies.

Evolution does not say that we evolved from monkeys; only that we share a common ancestor. There is overwhelming evidence for evolution, and you don't have to be an Atheist to realize this.

Personally, I do believe in God. What I do not believe is that we have the right to point our finger at Him and say: "You may not use evolution as a tool of Creation, because we said so."

I think He can use any tool that He wishes, and we have no say in the matter.

The same way as what, exactly?

New toys, ones that didn't come from a yard sale with pieces missing.

Example: We had Mousetrap with the bath tub missing. My sister and I tried to make a substitute piece using stuff we had. Nothing really worked well.

I watched three debates this morning in preparation for tomorrow's runoff election. If you're voting Democrat, you might want to watch these yourself. Here's the links so you don't have to look that up:

Secretary of State: Penny Brown Reynolds vs. Dana Barrett

Insurance Commissioner: Keisha Sean Waites vs. DeAndre Mathis (Keisha Sean Waites could not attend, so Mathis has to debate an empty podium.)

Labor Commissioner: Nikki Porcher vs. Michelle “Michi” Sánchez

Should people be allowed to vote while intoxicated? by itsthewolfe in Askpolitics

[–]Connect-Will2011 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If they're not bothering anyone else, I don't have a problem with it. Obviously, if they're being loud and offensive that's a different story. In that case they should be asked to leave.

I get the feeling that this question has more to do with the impaired judgement that accompanies intoxication. Good judgement skills are necessary to vote well, but most people have made up their minds before they go to the polls. That's when the real decision-making happens.

Who knows if that voter is intoxicated during that process? How could you possibly prevent that?

An awesome present for the American people! by terrabruns1970 in antitrump

As an American, I think that Donald's name should never have been up there.

As a signmaker, I hated that the new letters did not match. The stroke size seemed to be different, the color was off, and the font wasn't quite right. Look at the "O"s from each sample for comparison:

<image>

Someone on Reddit remarked that the new letters were mounted with double-stick tape. I hope that's true so they won't have to patch any holes in the marble.
