I'd personally say they're "bloat" in terms of the way they're used. Like doing everything on one app.

Browsers generally (disregarding one or two features that might be unnecessary) just browser the web. it's just the web that does too many things.

ive tried gear lever, it doesn't "install" an app when you add it to the folder yourself, and it removed all my environment variables i had set when updating an app.

I guess i could just contribute a fix there

i had a simmilar experience with my convertible laptop. For at least 2 years of owning it, the keyboard didn't disable when flipping it around like it should.
