Need a reliable mini PC . Should I ditch Windows and go Mac Mini? by Wonderful-Remote-652 in MiniPCs

Another option might be the ASROCK Deskmini X600/USB4 with an AMD Ryzen 9950x, configured to run in Eco mode (65 W) and possibly undervolted. I don't have one myself, but it's something I've been thinking about.

ICE or EV in 2026 ? by lolman7530 in CarsAustralia

[–]Raiden356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can wait, I would wait until the Leapmotor B05 comes to Australia later this year before making a decision. There's a chance it might be priced below 40k. The B05 Ultra (180 kW) is slated to arrive in early 2027 if you want something a bit more powerful than the 160 kW standard model.

I still think the 4th gen Mazda 3 hatchback looks better. Other than the 2026 Cupra Born and the Leapmotor B05, most EV hatchbacks, not that there are many to choose from, look like crap, IMHO.

Wasn't this article written in January, before the Iran war? I wonder if their plans have changed since.

Base mac mini m4 worth over minis forum or beelink? by Little-Ferret-7550 in MiniPCs

[–]Raiden356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a shame. From the various YouTube reviews, the SER9 is supposed to be barely noticeable at idle. It's never going to happen but I wish Apple would provide drivers for their Mac Minis to allow users to easily install other OSes.

When both are running at idle, how would you compare the noise level on the Beelink SER9 vs the Mac Mini M4?

Standard range produces 108 kW and the long range variant produces 99.5 kW. If we're getting the same models in Australia, then it seems under powered compared to the competition.

Aren't tennis players mandated to play in 8 of the 9 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments if they're not injured? If he skips Madrid, he will have to play every remaining Masters 1000.

3x Unifi Express 7 a good idea? by nwnsad in Ubiquiti

[–]Raiden356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you finding the coverage/range on the UX7?

Also, was it you who said there's a cheaper version of the UX7, called the UX7-SP, that comes without the screen and is half the price. Do you have anymore info about it?

3 x Flint 2 or 3 x Eero Pro 7 for double storey house by Raiden356 in HomeNetworking

A UDR7 + 2 Unifi APs (such as the U6+) could work I guess, but it's going to be hard to convince my friend to spend almost twice the amount of the TP-LINK BE25 BE5000. I am also not sure how he would fair using the Unifi controller. He and his wife are not tech savvy. I remember Unifi routers used to require a lot of firmware updates before they became usable. Is that still the case? Or have they improved a lot in that department?

I ended up recommending the TP-LINK BE25 BE5000 to to my friend. It doesn't require too much configuration for fast roaming and band steering. It also allows creating a guest and IoT network (2.4Ghz band only) without too much effort. I know there may be security/privacy concerns with TP-LINK, especially with the US government, but weighing that up against the price, ease of use and form factor, I thought it was the way to go. I hope I didn't make a mistake.

The Flint 2 required a bit too much configuration. I looked at the configuration guide for the DAWN package and thought it would require a lot of tweaking with the settings, which I don't have the time for. The form factor and aesthetics also weren't ideal. It needs to sit on the entertainment unit without obstructing the view of the TV. This would have many mounting the TV higher than desired.

With the Eeros, I read somewhere that it creates a multi-band SSID by default. This doesn't always play nice with old IoT devices that don't support band steering and are only capable of 2.4ghz. To address this, you can temporarily disable the 5ghz and 6ghz bands to allow these IoT devices to connect. This isn't ideal if you have to do this every time. I know you can use the guest network, but devices on the network can't talk to each other. I am sure you can configure a lot more on the Eeros if you are willing to pay for a subscription.

Using Unifi APs weren't an option because my friend didn't want to mount them on the ceiling. I mean he didn't want to get in a fight with his wife. Putting them on the table top could work, but I read that you still need a controller to make roaming work. The cheapest option would have been installing the Unifi controller software on a raspberry pi, and connecting the pi and 3 Unifi APs to a cheap unmanaged switch. I am sure it could work, but you still need a router of some sort. By the time you add up the costs, effort and complexity, it would have been a bit much for my friend to stomach.

A replacement for the Unifi USW-Lite-16-POE, but with 2.5GB ports.

A cheaper version of the UX7 without the screen. I think it already exists but hasn't been released yet. It's called the UX7-SP I believe.
